Job Description

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University, in conjunction with Hamilton Health Sciences, is seeking a full-time academic Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to provide care at McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH).

Department and Program Overview:

The successful candidate will join the current McMaster complement of inpatient child and adolescent psychiatrists, pediatric psychologists, and allied health professionals.  The Child and Youth Mental Health Program, Acute Mental Health Services, at McMaster Children’s Hospital, includes a 22-bed inpatient unit, a 6-bed Mental Health Assessment Unit and emergency mental health service, and a Consult-Liaison Service.  There is collaboration with our ambulatory services at the Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre, which includes our outpatient services, brief intervention program, and day hospital program.  Our academic division has strong educational and research initiatives, allowing collaborations between researchers, educators, clinicians, community-based service providers and knowledge leaders.

We offer a collegial atmosphere, a unique academic environment, research opportunities and the opportunity to work in a growing academic department with enthusiastic colleagues. The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences is a multidisciplinary department consisting of MD and non-MD faculty working within a unique regional network of psychiatric services that integrates two hospitals.  We have excellent opportunities available for psychiatrists interested in an academic career in the following areas: inpatient mental health, consultation-liaison, emergency psychiatry, and substance abuse.

Hamilton is situated on the western shore of Lake Ontario and offers the perfect combination of city life and nature.  Our vibrant, accessible, family-friendly core is bursting with new restaurants, breweries, and shops in addition to a large public art gallery, several theatres, and sports and entertainment arena.  The Hamilton area offers numerous recreational activities, such as boating, golfing, biking, skiing, and hiking along hundreds of kilometers of walking trails weaving along the waterfront, through the Hamilton area and along the renowned Bruce Trail.  Hamilton is geographically situated between Toronto and Niagara, less than an hour’s drive from each destination.  The proximity affords easy access to airports, major league sports, cross-border shopping, and of course, Niagara wine country.
