Job Description
The internal medicine program is represented by specialists in respirology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, cardiology, endocrinology, oncology, nephrology, hematology and a closed ICU. There is full support by all surgical specialties with the exception of cardiac and neurosurgery. Additionally, there is diagnostic imaging support which includes state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla MRI and two CT Scanners with access to interventional DI. The hospital supports a full-time pulmonary function lab, endoscopy unit, non-interventional cath lab, nuclear medicine and ultrasonography. Sault Area Hospital has a medicine program comprised of the following: . Hospitalist program for orphan patients . Family medicine program . General internal medicine unit (20 beds) . Mixed internal medicine subspecialty program
Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario is located on the St. Mary's River between Lake Huron and Lake Superior on the U.S. /Canadian border. The Sault has all the amenities of a regional urban centre, with both the Canadian wilderness and extraordinary vacation areas in Michigan just minutes away. Marie is served by three Canadian airlines as well as one major U.S. airline. Sault Area Hospital (SAH) is a new state-of-the-art facility recently opened in 2011. With 291 inpatient beds and 14 Intensivist led ICU beds, SAH provides emergency, primary, secondary, selected tertiary and long-term care healthcare services to the city and the District of Algoma with a catchment population of approximately 115,000. Group Health Centre is a progressive, multi-specialty, ambulatory care health organization and is one of Canada's first consumer-sponsored health care facilities built with private funds donated by local union members. As Ontario's largest and longest established alternatively funded healthcare organization, Group Health Centre serves over 60,000 Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District residents.
At Sault Area Hospital we are always looking for locum assistance in most specialties as we accommodate approximately 40 locum physicians each month. Funded through the HFO program you will receive lucrative compensation, reimbursement for expenses and travel remuneration. We do our best to ensure a smooth transition to SAH by assisting in hotel and car reservations as well as consistent and frequent communication, answering any questions you may have.
Teaching Opportunity
Affiliation with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) provides the opportunity to teach residents and medical students.
