EMERGENCY MEDICINE
NIAGARA HEALTH
The Department of Emergency Medicine at Niagara Health seeks highly motivated physicians with a passion for providing the highest quality care to join the NH Medical Staff

We provide a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services to more than 450,000 residents across Niagara, including Acute Care, Cancer Care, Cardiac Care, Complex Care, Emergency and Urgent Care, Kidney Care, Long- Term Care, Mental Health and Addictions, Stroke Care, Women’s and Babies Care, and Surgical Care.

The Practice:
- 12 – 15 - 8/10 hour shifts per month = Full time position
- 4 – 6 – 8/10 hour shifts per month = Part Time
Academic Affiliations:
Since its founding in 1966, innovation has been the hallmark of McMaster University’s Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine and a major contributor to its international reputation for excellence.
The medical school has expanded to a regional campus in Niagara, which is located at Brock University. Students at the Niagara Regional Campus complete their clinical rotations in one of the six area hospitals with teaching done by the highly skilled and motivated hospital physicians.
Opportunities for strengthening and building strong academic partnerships are a priority for the NHS as the hospital has expanded into this new facility. We are interested in physicians who will pursue a university faculty appointment and participate in academic activities within a strong regional community hospital setting.
In addition to McMaster, Niagara Health is building strong ties with other regional academic providers such as Brock University and Niagara College.

Hamilton Health Sciences and St Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton 1 hour away
Qualifications Required:
- Independent license or eligible for independent license with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
- FRCP(C)/CCFP EM/CCFP w/ relevant ER experience/ABEM (US)
- ACLS/ATLS/PALS
- Eligible to work in Canada without restrictions
Our Sites:
Welland Site (WS)
- Approximately 29,113 visits/year
- Department has full and part time physicians
- Registered Nurses are certified in ACLS and most have PALS and Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum.
- Diagnostic Imaging – Radiology, Ultrasound, Mammography, CT, Nuclear Medicine
- Department promotes and participates in the CHAT Program (Community and Hospital Against Trauma) of Central West Ontario.
- Recent multimillion dollar expansion of the ER and Ambulatory Care with large trauma rooms, improved patient privacy
- Alternate Funding Agreement (AFA) with the MOHLTC
- Participates in undergraduate and graduate teaching
Fort Erie (Douglas Memorial) Site (FES) 12 Hour Urgent Care
- Approximately 17, 863 visits / year
- Registered Nurses are trained in ACLS and most have advanced training in PALS. Some staff has completed the Emergency Nurse Certificate Program.
- Diagnostic Imaging – Radiology, Ultrasound, Mammography
- Department promotes and participates in the CHAT Program (Community and Hospital Against Trauma) of Central West Ontario.
- Alternate Funding Agreement (AFA) with the MOHLTC
Niagara Falls (Greater Niagara General) Site (NFS)
- Approximately 49,616 visits / year
- Over 14 million tourists annually
- Specialty back up provided on a 24-hour on-call basis. Geriatric Assessment, Cardiac Rehab Programs
- Registered Nurses are certified in ACLS and most have PALS and Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum.
- Diagnostic Imaging – Radiology, Ultrasound, Mammography, CT, Nuclear Medicine, MRI
- Construction complete on redevelopment and expansion of the ER and Ambulatory Care
- Physician codes and bills individually
- Regional Stroke Centre
- Participates in undergraduate and graduate teaching
Port Colborne (General) Site (PCS) 24 Hour Urgent Care
- Approximately 24,622 visits / year
- 24-hour on-site physician coverage with second-on-call physician back-up.
- Registered Nurses are certified in ACLS with some also having PALS and ATLS.
- Diagnostic Imaging – Radiology, Ultrasound, Mammography
- Alternate Funding Agreement (AFA) with the MOHLTC
St. Catharines Site (SCS)
- Approximately 72,000 visits/year
- Site hosts regional vascular and thoracic surgery, dialysis, oncology, Maternal/Child, Psychiatry
- Diagnostic Imaging – Radiology, Ultrasound, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, CT, MRI
- All Registered Nurses are certified in BCLS, ACLS, PALS and many have Trauma Nursing Core Curriculum. Some RN's are also Emergency Nurse Certified (Canadian). Crisis Nurse
- ED participates in both the undergraduate and residency teaching programs at McMaster.
- Regional Sexual Assault Treatment Centre is based at the St. Catharines Emergency
- Physician codes and bills individually
