Job Description

EPICare Medical is introducing a brand new clinic ready to welcome dedicated physicians! We are a part of a Family Health Organization (FHO) and are looking for doctors to join the FHO’s second site which currently has 1 member operating from it. Located in the beautiful and growing town of Waterdown (just minutes from both Hamilton and Burlington) the successful candidate will have ample opportunity to grow a thriving practice.

The successful candidate will have the flexibility to set their own schedule to provide care to their practice through both virtual and in-person appointments and share after-hours coverage in alignment with FHO requirements.

This modern practice is fully equipped with Avaros EMR, supported by a full-time administrative team and optional assistance from Physician Assistants. The new facility boasts 5 exam rooms, four private offices, a kitchen and lunch area, a spacious reception and waiting room, an accessible restroom for patients, and a private restroom for staff. Free parking is available for both patients and staff, ensuring convenience and accessibility for everyone. Join a fresh, dynamic environment designed to support both exceptional care and a collaborative team experience.

Job Duties:

As a family physician in Ontario working in an outpatient setting, your job duties will include:

  • Primary Care Services: Providing comprehensive primary care services to patients of all ages, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly.
  • Preventive Care: Conducting routine check-ups, health screenings, and immunizations to prevent illnesses and promote overall health and well-being.
  • Diagnosis and Treatment: Diagnosing and treating common acute illnesses, such as respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, and minor injuries, as well as chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and asthma.
  • Chronic Disease Management: Managing chronic diseases through ongoing monitoring, medication management, lifestyle counseling, and referrals to specialists when needed.
  • Health Promotion and Education: Providing health education and counseling to patients on topics such as nutrition, exercise, smoking cessation, and stress management to promote healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Referrals and Coordination of Care: Referring patients to specialists, diagnostic tests, and other healthcare services as necessary, and coordinating care among multiple providers to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Prescription Management: Prescribing medications, reviewing medication regimens, and monitoring for potential drug interactions or adverse effects.
  • Minor Procedures: Performing minor surgical procedures, such as removing staples, moles, warts or skin lesions, ear syringing and administering injections.
  • Telemedicine Consultations: Providing virtual consultations and follow-up care through telemedicine platforms, especially in situations where in-person visits are not feasible or necessary. (optional)
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) Documentation: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date electronic health records of patient encounters, including medical history, physical examinations, diagnostic test results, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
  • Collaboration with Allied Health Professionals: Collaborating with nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, dietitians, and other allied health professionals to optimize patient care and outcomes.
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME): Engaging in ongoing professional development activities, such as attending conferences, workshops, and seminars, to stay abreast of the latest medical advancements and evidence-based practices.
  • Quality Improvement Initiatives: Participating in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the delivery of primary care services, patient satisfaction, and clinical outcomes within the practice setting.
  • Community Engagement: Engaging with the local community through health fairs, seminars, and outreach programs to raise awareness about preventive healthcare measures and promote health literacy.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Being prepared to respond to medical emergencies that may arise in the outpatient setting, such as cardiac arrests, anaphylaxis, or acute exacerbations of chronic conditions, by maintaining proficiency in basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) protocols.

Family physicians in Ontario are encouraged to adhere to the guidelines and standards set forth by regulatory bodies such as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and the Ontario Medical Association (OMA).

Skills requirements: Certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), and registration/licensure from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)

Language of work: English. Proficiency in other languages are welcome to help serve this diversifying community!

Wage: Payment provided via blended capitation model if the incumbent joins the Family Health Organization via billing to the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). Build your roster with financial security by applying for income stabilization for the first 12 months upon commencement of your membership with the Family Health Organization (FHO).

Benefits package offered: Physicians can join the clinic’s existing group insurance benefits OR apply for their own personal and professional benefits through the Ontario Medical Association or insurance provider of choice.

Location of work: Waterdown, ON
