Job Description
The Division of Paediatrics at Quinte Health Belleville General Hospital is actively seeking permanent full-time and/or part-time, FRCPC paediatric physicians. Applicants must be current with NRP and PALS certifications and be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario.
The Belleville General Hospital Maternal Child Unit has a 6 (up to 8) bed paediatric unit, a Level 2A NICU, and ~1500 deliveries per year, staffed in a hospitalist model by a dynamic and supportive group of paediatricians, committed to optimizing both clinical experience and lifestyle for each other and patients!
This group is funded through a Regional Consulting Paediatric APP model (base stipend plus percentage of billings). The potential applicant also has the opportunity to join group outpatient clinic that is well known in the community and is managed by the group. The clinic is a shared space-based practice that is managed and operated by the group and located conveniently across the street from Belleville General Hospital. The clinic provides consultative care for a wide range of general paediatric conditions, and also operates an urgent consultation clinic.
Quinte Health paediatricians also provide consultative care through few multi-disciplinary clinics at Belleville General Hospital, Quinte Children's Treatment Centre and the Regional Paediatric Diabetes clinic. The potential applicant may have opportunities to join these multi-disciplinary clinics based on their interests and scope of practice.
Paediatric consultative services are mainly provided at Belleville General Hospital, though the group also provide support to other Quinte Health hospitals including North Hastings Hospital, Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, and Trenton Memorial Hospital. Our local tertiary care facility and regional site for NICU is Kingston General Hospital, which is located only 45 minutes away. CHEO (Ottawa, Ontario) is also our PICU referral site and also very supportive of our group in terms of many subspecialty consultative services.
All paediatricians hold academic appointments with Queen’s University and have the opportunity to regularly participate in Queen’s resident and medical student training during their community paediatric rotation. There are also many opportunities to be engaged in managerial and leadership roles by taking a lead in many paediatric division initiatives, committees and quality improvement projects.
Quinte Health has over 2,000 staff members and 320 medical staff who provide a wide range of high-quality health care services to a region of 160,000 residents. Care is provided through four hospitals: Belleville General Hospital, North Hastings Hospital, Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital and Trenton Memorial Hospitals – and includes four emergency departments, operating rooms at three sites, inpatient services (including acute medicine, intensive care, obstetrics, pediatrics, mental health, complex continuing care, rehabilitation and surgery), a rehabilitation day hospital, children’s treatment centre, ambulatory care clinics, community mental health programs, and a range of diagnostic services.
The Quinte area is in south-eastern Ontario. The region offers low cost of living, affordable homes, and excellent schools as well as quality local theatre, AHL hockey, shopping and restaurants. The area includes one of the most diverse and beautiful countryside in Ontario, from the lakes of Bancroft to wine country, picturesque towns and Sandbanks beach of Prince Edward County. Nearly all lifestyle interests can be found within the communities served by Quinte Health.
The paediatric group currently includes 10 paediatricians with various interests. The most amazing part of our group is collegiality and support we give each other. The practice is really versatile with a balanced exposure to both inpatient and outpatient settings, and ample opportunities for hands on experience. Should you see yourself practicing in a community-based setting where you can practice all your paediatric skills and enjoy the tranquility of the nature and amazing beachfronts in your personal time, please feel free to contact us.
