Job Description

Academic Geriatric Psychiatrist

Department of Psychiatry, Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada

The Department of Psychiatry at Queen’s University is seeking an Academic Geriatric Psychiatrist to join its Division of Geriatric Psychiatry to help enhance its mission (education, research and clinical) in the treatment of older individuals with mental illness. Clinical work will be provided through the Seniors Mental Health Program at Providence Care, a program that offers inpatient, outpatient, and community outreach services for older adults in Southeastern Ontario. Providence Care has a new, state-of-the art hospital that supports Geriatric Psychiatry and other mental health and geriatric-related programs. The Division of Geriatric Psychiatry at Queen’s University has a Royal College accredited Geriatric Psychiatry Residency Training program, and provides clinical supervision to medical students, general psychiatry residents, geriatric psychiatry residents and international fellows. The Division is uniquely positioned to expand and excel in its academic and research activities, working collaboratively with its partners/clinical departments at Providence Care, Department of Psychiatry at Queen’s and at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC), as well as the Centre for Neuroscience Studies (CNS), just to name a few.

Applicants should have a experience in geriatric psychiatry as well as a proven interest and track record in research and/or education in this field. Applicants must demonstrate experience/skills, as well as proven commitment to clinical service within an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment. Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent). Successful candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and preference will be given to applicants who have specialty certification from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the American Board of Specialties. Preference will also be given to individuals with current certification or eligibility for RCPCS subspecialty certification in Geriatric Psychiatry.

Members of the Department of Psychiatry enjoy a competitive compensation package, including a generous benefits plan. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience.

Faculty and their dependents are eligible for an extensive benefits package including prescription drug coverage, vision care, dental care, long term disability insurance, life insurance and access to the Employee and Family Assistance Program. Employees also participate in a pension plan. Tuition assistance is available for qualifying employees, their spouses and dependent children. Queen’s values families and is pleased to provide a ‘top up’ to government parental leave benefits for eligible employees on maternity/parental leave. In addition, Queen’s provides partial reimbursement for eligible daycare expenses for employees with dependent children in daycare. For more information on employee benefits, see Queen’s Human Resources.
