Job Description
Halton Healthcare is an innovative, growing organization with three progressive community hospitals, providing quality health services to more than 350,000 Halton residents in Ontario, Canada.
ADULT OUTPATIENT GENERAL PSYCHIATRIST
Halton Healthcare is a fully accredited community hospital and organization and an affiliated clinical education campus for McMaster University and Toronto Metropolitan University. The Mental Health Program provides service in community clinic settings across North Halton and in three hospital sites, including Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, Milton District Hospital and Georgetown Hospital. Using a collaborative inter-disciplinary model of care, the Mental Health Program offers a full continuum of services for patients across the lifespan, including emergency mental health services, inpatient beds, consultation-liaison psychiatry, and outpatient services.
Halton Healthcare is seeking an Adult Outpatient General Psychiatrist to practice in a split role between our hospital outpatient and community clinic outpatient sites. In this position you will:
- Work alongside multi-disciplinary teams to provide evidence-based assessments, consultations, and follow-up care to a full variety of general psychiatry outpatients including concurrent disorders patients.
- Provide coverage as needed across Adult Outpatient Services with backup coverage to hospital Consultation Liaison Services.
- Work collaboratively with staff and physicians and participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement activities, continuing education, student training, and our on-call roster.
- Collaborate and liaise effectively with key stakeholders such as organization medical leaders, primary care, and community agencies to enhance access to evidence-based care and align mental health services with the needs of the organization and community.
Successful candidates must possess or be eligible to apply for an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Ontario with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and be licensed by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with a Fellowship in Psychiatry. Additional training or experience in addictions and/or Concurrent Disorders would be an asset, as would experience or interest in ECT. Proven experience working within an interdisciplinary team in a community setting and participating in quality improvement initiatives is also an asset. Demonstrated leadership skills such as communication, accountability, program planning, and the ability to create an environment that supports collaboration is also recommended.
