The Department of Psychiatry, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) are seeking to recruit an Academic Psychiatrist - Scientist to support its General Adult and Health Systems Psychiatry (General) Division. This role will hold a scientific appointment through CAMH’s Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute (CFMHRI) with primary scientific appointment in the Brain Health Imaging Centre & Pre-Clinical Research area and secondary scientific appointment in the General Division.   The successful candidate will build a program of research focused on investigating the neural circuit mechanisms underlying mood, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders. The ideal candidate will have a program that integrates cutting-edge tools in circuit neuroscience, molecular biology, and behavioral analysis to explore how early life stress and adult neuroplasticity shape emotional regulation and cognitive function. As a Scientist, the successful candidate will be required to establish local, national, and international collaborations, provide supervision of undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral research trainees, and technical staff. The successful candidate will be expected to lead research activities, maintain an active publication record, and secure extramural funding for these activities. They will also disseminate research results through presentations at academic meetings and conferences and communicate ideas to key decision makers. Participation in leadership advisory groups at CAMH and externally is expected.  There are also teaching opportunities with undergraduate and post graduate students, psychiatry residents and fellows.  The successful candidate will have an academic position description of Clinician Scientist and must be eligible for a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, at the University of Toronto. The effective start date is January 1, 2026 or a mutually agreeable date shortly thereafter.

With a collaborative inter-disciplinary environment that spans clinical, biological, social and epidemiological research, the CFMHRI supports a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

The successful candidate will have excellent clinical psychiatry skills, as well as a demonstrated excellence in working as a member of multi-disciplinary teams.  Experience working with mood disorder and psychosis populations within outpatient teams is required. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in neuroscience, genetics, or a related field, and have a strong track record of research productivity in the area of mood disorders, including evidence of high quality and high impact research publications, and a track record of external grant funding and awards commensurate with their career stage.  The incumbent will have a desire to work in and contribute to an active academic environment, with a commitment and experience in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. 

Applicants must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Academic rank will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.  Remuneration is in accordance with the compensation of a psychiatrist-scientist in the province of Ontario, and is comprised of a combination of clinical and research stipends, fees for service, funding through Academic and Educational Trust Funds, and on-call stipends, and will be commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.
