Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN, pronounced wren) is currently seeking to hire a Surgical Assistant for the Cardiac Surgery Division.

WRHN @ Midtown (formally Grand River Hospital) and WRHN @ Queen’s Blvd (formally St. Mary’s General Hospital) have undergone a voluntary merger and have well-defined and complementary clinical programs to serve both the local community and the region. Each hospital has acute care ED services with patient volumes reaching approximately 70,000 visits/annum. Queen’s Blvd is a Regional Cardiac Care Centre and a Centre of Excellence for Respiratory and Thoracic Care. WRHN @ Midtown hosts several regional programs including the Regional Cancer Centre, Hepatobiliary Surgery, and stroke, renal, pediatric and mental health programs.

Queen’s Blvd is home to the Regional Cardiac Care Centre (RCCC) for Waterloo-Wellington. In addition, the centre accepts referrals from Perth County, Grey-Bruce, Huron, Brant, and Oxford Counties, as well as Haldimand-Norfolk. The RCCC includes two state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization suites, two cardiovascular operating rooms, an eight bed cardiovascular intensive care unit and 64 inpatient beds. Emergency cardiac catheterization services and emergency cardiac surgery are available on a 24/7 basis.

Our cardiac surgical team consists of three dedicated and talented surgeons who provide first-class surgical care to more than 750 patients every year. We are leaders among our peers, providing timely consultation, compassionate care, and achieving excellent outcomes. The type of surgeries performed include: Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, Valve Replacement, Valve Repair and Aortic Aneurysm Repair.

The hospital is seeking physicians, preferably with surgical experience, to assist our cardiac surgeons with surgery and graft harvesting. Assisting requires dedication for the duration of the cardiac operations with the ability to commit to scheduled day lists and night, evening and weekend call. Please note that there is a stipend available.
