The child and adolescent psychiatry division at Grand River Hospital is seeking to add an additional child psychiatrist to our busy inpatient and outpatient services.  We are a group of 5 child psychiatrist who work well together and very much enjoy working in a team based environment with patients and their families.  We have just expanded our acute inpatient unit from 13 to 17 beds and further expansion to 21 beds is anticipated by the spring.  In the outpatient clinic which is adjacent to the hospital, we see urgent referrals from the emergency room or family physicians, and with her children's mental health team provide ongoing follow-up care.  We also have 2 excellent full-time nurses who support us and our patients.  We also offer consultative services for non-urgent referrals.  We have integrated virtual care very well into our processes.

Grand River Hospital is a large 665 bed community Hospital, and an accredited teaching site of McMaster University.  We routinely have psychiatry residents and medical students rotating with us.  In addition to child psychiatry, our psychiatric services include a 51 bed acute adult inpatient unit with psychiatric intensive care capabilities, a newly created additional 10 bed adult unit, an extended assessment mental health unit adjacent to the emergency room, and 50 rehabilitative psychiatry beds at our Freeport site.  We have a large 28 member department.  On-call is busy but infrequent, typically no more than 1-2 times per month.

Reimbursement is fee-for-service plus stipend funding.  We are interested in a full-time or part-time candidate and can be flexible to accommodate primarily outpatient or inpatient interest, or both.  

The candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and hold certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry. We also welcome interest from residents in their final year of specialty training, pending successful completion of the Royal College exams.  We are able to offer supervision to a candidate that we feel is a good fit with our group who is eligible for CPSO restricted license.
