The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is recruiting a Clinical Assistant (Cardiac Surgery) to support cardiac surgical services at Regina General Hospital (RGH) under a supervised practice model.This is a contract Clinical Assistant position within a CPSS-approved Clinical Assistant Program. The position supports supervised inpatient and peri-operative cardiac surgery care.Clinical Role (Supervised Practice)Under the supervision of designated cardiac surgeons, the Clinical Assistant will:

Participate in pre-operative and post-operative cardiac surgery patient care under supervision

Assist in the operating room only within an approved scope of practice

Support supervised inpatient management, documentation, and care coordination

Collaborate with cardiac surgeons, nursing, and the multidisciplinary care team

The Clinical Assistant:

Will never be the Most Responsible Physician (MRP)

May only perform clinical activities authorized by the supervising surgeon

Must practise under supervision at all times

Must practise strictly within a program and scope approved by the CPSS Registrar

Qualifications:

Medical degree from a recognized institution

Completion of postgraduate medical training

Eligibility for licensure as a Clinical Assistant with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS) under Licensure of Physicians to Work in Limited Roles

Important: Licensure as a Clinical Assistant is not a pathway to regular or independent licensure. Physicians seeking independent practice must meet all CPSS requirements for full licensure.
