The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (610 University Ave, Toronto, ON, M5G 2M9) is seeking a Clinician-Scientist to join the Radiation Medicine Program (RMP). The successful candidate is expected to build a laboratory-based research program focused on research related to cancer. Established clinical and research experience in gynecologic malignancies would be a strong asset.

The successful candidate is expected to have an outstanding track record in research through peer-reviewed publications. A successful Clinician-Scientist candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to outstanding care of cancer patients within the Radiation Medicine Program within the gynecology site group. This position will allow the candidate to serve as a role model, teacher, supervisor and mentor to Masters or Doctoral students, post-doctoral fellows, medical students, residents, and/or radiation oncology fellows. The successful candidate will be expected to see adults with gynecologic malignancies in consultation, through radiation treatment, and in follow-up. They will also be expected to establish and build an independent laboratory research program related to their site of practice, as well as provide clinical and didactic teaching through RMP and Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Toronto (UTDRO) programs. The successful candidate shall also serve on local and regional administrative committees as directed by the Head of RMP. The body site(s) of practice may change depending on the needs of the department, as determined by the Head of RMP.

The Radiation Medicine Program (RMP) is an academic department within Princess Margaret Cancer Centre/University Health Network (UHN) serving the radiation oncology needs of the Toronto central area. RMP is a tertiary referral resource for the Greater Toronto Area and the province, serving Ontarians and Canadians for specialized programs and services such as pediatric radiation oncology, sarcoma, head and neck cancer, ocular oncology, gamma knife, brachytherapy, and stem cell transplants (total body irradiation). Radiation oncologists collaborate with colleagues in surgical oncology, medical oncology, and other specialties to evaluate patients within a multi-disciplinary team. RMP aspires to be the leading Radiation Medicine Program in the world by providing exemplary patient care, research and education; we value and expect innovation in all aspects of our activities.

The Department of Radiation Oncology is currently staffed by 38 radiation oncologists, providing radiation therapy to >7,000 patients annually. There are state-of-the-art imaging and radiation treatment equipment including three CT-simulators, a MR simulator, 16 linear accelerators (Elekta and Varian), including Ethos linacs for on-line adaptive radiotherapy, two gamma knife units, and a MR Linac. There are advanced clinical and research programs in real-time adaptive IGRT, SBRT, brachytherapy (HDR), MR-guided RT, genomics, radiomics, and translational research, with personalized radiotherapy approaches including an active clinical trials program in collaboration with international cooperative groups. There is a robust education program ranging from undergraduate to postgraduate medical, physics and radiation therapy training within the University Department of Radiation Oncology, including 20 Radiation Oncology Residents, and over 20 Clinical and Research Radiation Oncology Fellows.

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience. For Clinician Scientists pay is dependent on a fee-for-service structure with an expected range of $450,000 per annum or greater. There is an allowance for annual leave of 5 weeks and additional allowance for professional development activities and scientific meetings. Preference will be offered to individuals who are certified, or eligible to be certified, in Radiation Oncology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment in the Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Toronto, and must hold and satisfy physician licensure requirements in Ontario. The successful candidate must hold an MD, MBBS or equivalent thereto. Candidates must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Possession of an advanced research degree (doctoral-level) is required. The successful candidate will be able to apply for cross appointment with other academic departments at the University of Toronto with graduate student trainees, such as Medical Biophysics. The successful candidate will be appointed as a member of the group practice plan (partnership), known as Radiation Oncologists – PM. All candidates must be able to demonstrate functional proficiency in English. Preference will be given to candidates with permanent residency or citizenship status in Canada.
