Job Description
The NBRHC Department of Emergency Medicine is looking for Physicians to join its high performance team
About Us:
We are a collegial group of CCFP, CCFP-EM and FRCP trained physicians with a wide variety of professional and personal interests. Our department sees on average 140-170 patients per day in a fast paced environment. We are a regional stroke referral center, a level III trauma center and have a large catchment area of smaller surrounding communities. Our ED is supported by Health Sciences North, our nearest Teritary Care Center, just over an hour away. Our workload is broken into 7 shifts per day, typically with double or triple physician coverage. Our team is well supported by specialists including ortho, surgery, ENT, urology, pediatrics, anesthesia, obstetrics and internal medicine and its subspecialties.
We have onsite CT and MRI imaging modalities. As a group we regularly participate in CME with an excellent SIM program and high fidelity SIM lab, monthly accredited Grand Rounds and case reviews. Our work is supported by an excellent group of nurses, RT’s, geriatric EM nurses, sexual assault program and crisis workers. The organization is affiliated with the NOSM University which provides various opportunities for teaching and mentorship. ED physicians are remunerated through a Alternate Funding Plan (AFA) with a rewarding financial structure.
Mentorship opportunities for new hires exist both formally through the MOH and informally within our group. Check out our website for more details about this great department and team at www.northbayer.com or find us on instagram@northbayemerg to learn more.
Hospital Information:
NBRHC is a state of the art regional center with a catchment area of 180,000 residents with strong inpatient and out patient programs to support them. Circa 2011, this 480 bed facility houses our well organized 41 bed ED with 2 trauma bays, 4 bed acute care room, easy to access imaging, Level 1 trauma infusers and established mass casualty and massive hemorrhage protocols. We are also the regional center for psychiatric care in Northeastern Ontario and have well established inpatient and outpatient psychiatric programs.
Community Information:
Situated roughly equal distances from Toronto and Ottawa and surrounded by two large beautiful lakes, we really are “just north enough to be perfect”. In our downtime you can find us skiing, trail running, paddling, fishing, mountain biking, or just putting our feet up by the lake. Our population of 52,000 boasts that our city is the perfect mix of opportunity and lifestyle. Situated between Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake, North Bay provides residents and visitors alike with countless recreational opportunities, while larger city amenities and a low crime
rate contribute to safe, but bustling communities.
Qualifications:
- Emergency medicine certification (RCPSC, or CCFP-EM) or family physician with equivalent emergency medicine experience
- CPSO Independent license to practice
Remuneration:
Physicians are competitively remunerated under an Emergency Medicine AFA (hourly rate + OHIP Billings).
NBRHC also offers a Recruitment Incentive Package which includes:
- a $75,000 hospital recruitment incentive, for a 1.0 FTE with a five year return of service
- a $25,000 practice start-up grant, for a 1.0 FTE with a five year return of service
- assistance with moving expenses
- up to $94,000 through the Northern Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative (NRRRI)
- support accessing the ED Recruitment Program ($79,300 over two years) for new Emergency Medicine physicians who have not previously worked in an Ontario ED hospital in a FTE position, or an ED physician working on a part-time basis and wants to increase to a full-time status.
