Job Description
Family Physician Opportunity – Huntsville, Ontario
Lakeview Physicians | NOSM Affiliated Teaching Practice
Lakeview Physicians in beautiful Huntsville, Ontario is seeking a motivated and collaborative Family Physician to join our well-established and collegial group practice.
About the Practice
Lakeview Physicians is a dynamic, team-based clinic consisting of 7 primary care physicians, supported by 4 experienced administrative staff and a dedicated nurse. Our practice fosters a highly collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on mentorship, collegiality, and shared learning. We are proud to be a Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) affiliated teaching site, offering opportunities to engage in medical education and contribute to the training of future physicians.
The Opportunity
This position offers a flexible and customizable practice structure, ideal for physicians seeking balance and variety in their careers.
- Practice size of just over 900 patients (currently transitioning to full rostering under FHO+) that have been actively cared for over the last 23 years, adhering to evidence-based guidelines and preventative screening programs and protocols. The patient population is a diverse mix of young children through to the elderly, with the majority of the patients in the 25-50 years of age window.
- Part-time weekly schedule, with a current allotment of 4 half-days per week in clinic, allowing time for other professional and personal interests
- Strong administrative and nursing support to optimize workflow and efficiency at Lakeview Physicians
- Lakeview Physicians operates out of a shared space medical condo where the physicians own the condo space. This translates into an investment opportunity rather than needlessly throwing your money away at rent. Annual dividends are paid back if overage is realized within the condo corporation.
- Incoming physicians are not obligated to purchase shares in the condo corporation; if they decide just to rent, then a competitive rent is offered as part of the overhead.
- Current overhead is 24.5% based on recent (March 2026) calculations. The amount of overhead that is paid depends on the number of actively rostered patients by each physician in the office.
- A very supportive clinic where we cross-cover for 6 weeks of vacation time. We additionally have a strong network of locum physicians who enjoy coming to our clinic if additional time off is required for extended leaves.
- Supplemental funding is available upon signing with:
- The Town of Huntsville has Physician Recruitment Initiative: financial recruitment bonus as well as many non-monetary bonuses including vehicles, mortgages, real estate incentives, and discounts at many local businesses. See the website for full details.
- The Northern Ontario Recruitment and Retention Initiative (NRRI)
Expanded Scope Opportunities
In addition to comprehensive family practice, there are multiple opportunities to diversify your clinical work in Huntsville:
- Geriatric Care
- Palliative Care
- Hospitalist Medicine
- Participation in a shared rotation (approximately 1 in 12 weeks, 7-day blocks) model. Three hospitalists are on at one time and patient load is anywhere between 15 to 25 active patients at a time. This is very lucrative as there are additional funding payments on top of fee for service.
- If you are interested in doing more hospitalist weeks, this can be arranged.
- Emergency Medicine – Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (MAHC)
- Opportunities for part-time ER work in addition to family medicine, which typically is 6 to 8 shifts a month but you can do more
- No additional training in Emergency Medicine required.
- However, Enhanced Skills mentorship available if the MOH approves the site, and no PGY3 EM training required)
- If there is interest, I would put you in touch with the lead physician for the Emergency Medicine group.
- Primary Care Obstetrics
- At the current time, Hutnsville is the primary site for Primary Obstetrical Care. There may be opportunities to participate depending on the size of the current Primary Care Obstetrical group (I would put you in touch with the lead physician)
Why Huntsville?
Huntsville and the surrounding Muskoka region offer an exceptional quality of life—particularly for those who value an active, outdoor lifestyle.
As a thriving tourist destination, Huntsville is home to a wide range of high-quality businesses, amenities, and services that are uncommon for a community of its size. One of the unique advantages of living here is the opportunity to live on the lake year-round, rather than reserving that lifestyle for weekend cottage escapes.
Outdoor enthusiasts will find endless opportunities to immerse themselves in nature, with access to Arrowhead Provincial Park, Algonquin Provincial Park, and numerous surrounding natural areas and private reserves ideal for paddling, hiking, and fishing.
For those passionate about sport and activity, the community offers a remarkably diverse and engaged environment. Opportunities abound for hockey, baseball, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, pickleball, ultimate frisbee, cycling, road and trail running, triathlon, open water swimming, strength and conditioning, CrossFit, and more.
Huntsville attracts individuals and families who prioritize an active lifestyle, creating a community that is notably more engaged in health, wellness, and outdoor activity than the average population.
