Family Physician – Established FHO Practice with ex-UK GP owners and Medical Directors

Income & workload

We believe in being transparent about both workload and earning potential.

You will be joining us through Ontario's FHO Income Stabilization (IS) program, providing secure Ministry-funded remuneration while establishing your roster and practice. Adding to their additional private fees income, our IS doctors earn about $230,000 per year before clinic overhead. The proposed New Patient Attachment bonus may add a further $100,000 to your first year with us.

We always supersede the monthly patient enrolment targets for our IS doctors (50-75 new patients per month) because we invest heavily in ongoing patient advertisement and recruitment so that the clinic consistently grows by about 600 new patients every month. The result being that the majority of our GPs are able to leave the IS program early (sometimes even after only half of the 1yr opportunity) to further increase their income via full FHO+ funding streams (base capitation, out-of-basket billings, consulting hourly rate, paid admin time, special premiums, annual bonuses, etc.)

The earning potential increases substantially once established within the FHO, after IS.

Based on actual recent physician remuneration at our clinic, our established FHO physicians currently:

• See approximately 70–110 patient appointments per week
• Typically work the equivalent of approximately 5–9 half-day clinical sessions per week, depending on individual pace and scheduling
• Receive approximately $28,000–$46,000 per month after clinic overhead
• Have median remuneration of approximately $37,000 per month after clinic overhead

For context, several of our physicians seeing approximately 80–100 appointments per week received approximately $33,000–$40,000 per month after overhead. These are actual recent figures from physicians working at our clinic, rather than theoretical 'maximum' earnings. FHO+ remuneration varies according to roster size, patient demographics, services provided, billing mix and individual workload. Part of our job as ex-UK, GP-owners ourselves, is in teaching and mentoring you in how to achieve these same figures with structured sessions, ongoing feedback, and sample test consultations. We offer a 20% overhead (plus HST) if you're working full-time (at least 8 half-day equivalents per week) or are billing at least $30,000 per month even if you're only working part-time. Otherwise the overhead reverts to 25%.

Flexible practice

Physicians have considerable control over how they structure their working week. This makes the opportunity suitable both for doctors seeking a strong work-life balance and those wishing to build a higher-income practice.

A typical half-day might involve approximately 12–15 patient appointments, allowing physicians to choose a clinical volume that suits them rather than being committed to a rigid schedule. You can also choose your start and finish times, and break times, to align with your other commitments such as dropping off and picking up children from school/daycare. You also have the opportunity to do virtual appointments from home with our fully cloud-based IT systems.

The FHO+ model also provides remuneration beyond individual patient encounters, including capitation and other FHO payments. Following Income Stabilization, physicians practising under the current FHO+ model can also receive the new Ministry hourly payments for eligible direct and indirect patient care and clinical administrative work, in addition to applicable FHO payments. 12 of our current 13 GPs are from the UK and we provide full support in bringing you over, with guidance on how to licence with the CPSO and CFPC, work permits for yourself and your spouse, as well as study permits for your children. We also help you get set up with banking and accounting services, as well as connecting you with realtors to get your first home rental set up before you land, and advising you on the best-rated schools in our area for your children.
