Job Description
The Kenora Chiefs Advisory is actively seeking locums with flexible dates to provide care in the First Nation's communities surrounding Kenora Ontario.
Wholistic and interdisciplinary support is provided within a team approach including nursing staff, community members, and nurse practitioners. Physicians must have cultural sensitivity to the issues unique to First Nation's populations, as well as a commitment to wholistic, person-centered, and culturally-safe care including an openness to traditional and western medicine practices.
The Kenora Chiefs Advisory (KCA) is an alliance of independent, participating First Nations within the Western Region and has been incorporated and in operation since 1995. KCA’s mandate is to provide programs and services to the First Nations in the field of health, education and social services in a holistic, traditional way ensuring the survival of the Anishinaabe way in the present and future generations. Chiefs from each of the nine communities constitute a board of directors and govern Kenora Chiefs Advisory (KCA) while the day-to-day operations are managed by the Executive Director. These Chiefs are accountable to the First Nations that they represent.
The goal of the KCA primary care initiative is to expand and further coordinate wholistic, patient-centred, culturally appropriate primary care services for First Nations communities
This includes expanding physician and other interdisciplinary primary care services to:
- Increase equitable access to primary care providers in First Nations Communities
- Promote overall wellbeing and improved health outcomes
- Create a more robust primary care system within communities
