Job Description

Alberta Health Services, Central Corridor, and the Department of Gastroenterology at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, invites applications for a Gastroenterologist to establish a full-time practice in the community of Red Deer. This position will provide endoscopy services including gastroscopy and colonoscopy. As part of the Gastroenterology team, you will share on call and endoscopy time, with no requirement of Internal Medicine or Intensive Care Unit call coverage. Gastroenterology on-call is purely consultative, and the division does not directly admit patients. 

 

Competency in endoscopic ultrasound, and sub-specialty training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy is preferred. 

        

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services;
  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies;
  • Establish and maintain full time community based practice within the community;
  • Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including full time participation in the Gastroenterology call schedule, as required;
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Zone Clinical Department of Medicine;
  • Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs;
  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities, as assigned;
  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care

 

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing independent outpatient practice or form an independent outpatient office of their own. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Required Qualifications:

  • Have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (required with application);
  • Have or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (RCPSC);
  • Have sub-specialty certification or equivalent in Gastroenterology, or be currently enrolled in a Gastroenterology Residency Program;

     

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Physicians with sub-specialty training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy are desired.
