Job Description
Practice Overview
The Headache, Migraine & Concussion Centre (HMCC) is an established, community-based specialty clinic serving patients throughout Durham Region and the Greater Toronto Area.
Our practice focuses on compassionate, evidence-based and non-narcotic care for people living with chronic migraine, headache disorders, concussion-related headaches and selected chronic pain conditions. Many of our patients come to HMCC after months or years of persistent symptoms and difficulty accessing specialized care.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a physician with established experience in headache medicine, chronic pain management and related interventional procedures.
We welcome applications from:
- Neurologists and headache medicine specialists
- Anesthesiologists with chronic pain experience
- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physicians
- Family physicians with formal training and an established focused practice in headache or chronic pain medicine
- Qualified US-based physicians interested in relocating to Ontario
This flexible opportunity can begin with one clinical day per week, with the option to increase to two or three days as desired.
Clinical Focus
Ideal candidates will have in-depth knowledge in the management, diagnosis, and treatment of complex headache and facial pain disorders, including performing interventional procedures, participating in interdisciplinary care and research.
- Chronic migraine and complex headache disorders
- Therapeutic toxin injections for migraine and dystonia
- Longitudinal specialty care and treatment optimization
Position Highlights
- Outpatient-focused position
- No call requirement
- Dedicated headache clinic with access to infusion therapies and neuromodulation treatments
- Collaborative team of advanced practice providers and pain specialists
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Hold an MD, DO or equivalent medical degree
- Be registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), or be eligible to apply for Ontario registration
- Hold appropriate specialty certification, focused-practice credentials or equivalent documented training and experience
- Demonstrate current competence in the assessment and management of headache or chronic pain conditions
- Demonstrate existing training and competency for any interventional procedures they intend to perform
- Be committed to compassionate, patient-centred and evidence-based care
- Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, administrative staff and referring providers
Headache medicine fellowship training or equivalent clinical experience is preferred. Experience administering Botox for chronic migraine and performing peripheral nerve blocks is a strong asset.
US-Trained Physicians
HMCC welcomes confidential discussions with US-based physicians interested in practising in Ontario.
Physicians certified by an American Board of Medical Specialties member board may be eligible for a streamlined CPSO registration pathway. Eligibility and approved scope are determined individually by CPSO. Candidates must also satisfy applicable Canadian work authorization requirements.
Practice Location
HMCC is located in Ajax, Ontario, approximately 35 kilometres east of downtown Toronto. Ajax provides access to the Greater Toronto Area while offering a growing community, waterfront trails and a more manageable cost of living than central Toronto.
