Position Overview, Schedule, and Supports:  

Position Overview & Schedule 

The Hospitalist service provides in-patient, Most Responsible Physician (MRP) care for adult patients over the age of 17 years, who have a primary medical diagnosis or condition.  

Common Hospitalist patient medical conditions include COPDE, CHFE, Liver cirrhosis, GI bleed, Delirium, electrolytes abnormalities, seizures, substance use disorders including intoxication and withdrawal, dementia, sepsis, atrial fibrillation, SOB, Syncope, geriatric frailty, CAP, Skin and soft tissue infections, diabetes medical emergencies, etc. Occasional supportive medical care is also provided to Adult Mental Health and Forensics patients on nights and weekends. On these units the Psychiatrist assumes the Most Responsible Physician role. 

TBRHSC has 24/7 specialty services available for consultation including critical care.

The Hospitalist Service is comprised of Internal Medicine and Family Medicine Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.  

The Service runs nine physician rounders daily (one admissionist, one physician who also takes 4-8pm call daily, and 1-2 nocturnist admissionists.  

Physicians are responsible for all calls concerning their patients for that designated day’s working hours. Each physician working within the Hospitalist Team is expected to rotate through the Rounding, Admissionist and 4pm-8pm roles as assigned.  

Compensation and Expense Reimbursement: 

Compensation:  

The Hospitalist Service is eligible for Ontario Health’s Urgent Locum NSLP stream. Compensation is based on a daily work stipend plus the daily NSLP Honorarium. Additional summer incentives are also available ($).

Travel: Travel costs (flights/mileage/car rentals) are reimbursed via the NSLP locum rates. Ask our physician recruiter about our discounted car rental rates for locums. Locums are also eligible for a travel sessional and honorarium.  

Accommodations: Ask our physician recruiter about our discounted accommodation rates for locums.  

Accommodations expenses are reimbursed by the Ontario Health NSLP.
