Department of Family Medicine of the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) Regina Area is seeking Family Physicians to join the Collaborative Inpatient Care (CIC) team at Pasqua Hospital in Regina and act as the Most Responsible Physician (MRP) for patients admitted to the Medical Surveillance Unit (MSU) and off-service areas when required due to capacity. The MSU is an intermediate care unit which provides a specialized level of care when patients are not appropriate for admission to a regular ward. The MSU services Emergency, Surgery, Oncology and Medical patients. This position focuses on high-quality, team-based inpatient care in MSU. Physicians will provide comprehensive care to adult medical inpatients, coordinate admissions, and participate in interdisciplinary care planning and quality improvement initiatives.
Key Details:Manage a typical patient load of 12 MSU, subject to variation by acuity, complexity, and time of year.Provide 10 hours of daily in-hospital coverage, typically between 0700–1700 or 0800–1800 for 3–7 days per calendar week, totaling 8–22 weeks annually.Daily rounding, admissions, discharge summaries, bedside rounds, and participation in unit-based metrics.For the Medical Surveillance Unit, the physician must have Critical Care Experience. Comfort in the following areas is essential: - The ability to triage and manage multiple critically ill patients
- Management of Critical illnesses not meeting criteria for admission to ICU (Shock, DKA, Sepsis, Liver Dysfunction, etc)
- Management of telemetry/ and patients on continuous vital signs monitoring
- Management of Complex Toxicology, Electrolyte and Acid Base Disorders
- Management of Respiratory Failure including NIPPV, High Flow Oxygen and Airway Management
- Management of Cardiac Arrhythmias
- Management of TPN and Enteral Nutrition
- Management of Dialysis related issues
- Comfort with Procedures (Line Placement, Thoracentesis, Paracentesis, enteral feeding tubes)
- Point of care ultrasound training (General, Thoracic, Cardiac, Procedural)

- The successful candidate will have the ability to obtain and maintain a regular licence with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan and obtain and maintain membership on the SHA Practitioner Staff. Preference will be given to applicants with an interest and experience in hospital-based medicine.
- The successful candidate will hold certification or be eligible for certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
