Locum ER Physician(s) Shifts are 12 or 24 hours. Enhanced fee $420/hr Dec 22-27, 2026. Asking for minimum of three 12 hour shift commitment or more (24's available as well) but not required.

6 bed ED with 2 resuscitation rooms, two general rooms and two specialty areas for orthopedics and minor procedures. 64 slice high resolution CT scanner on site. Hospital has 30 Acute Care beds and 30 Rehab and Chronic Care. Three active operating rooms. Full time anesthesia and surgical coverage.

Patient Volume

Level 3: 19,000 per year.

Travel Allowance

Travel costs are re-imbursed 100% from HFO locum programs. There is also a per day travel honorarium paid for arrival and departure day, example is $1700 per 9 hr travel day. 

Accommodation Offered

Fully furnished homes/apartments are available, walking distance from LVGH. $120-150 per day for locums.  Receipts available from Riverside Health Care for full reimbursement from HFO locum programs.  Payment can be made at front desk of La Verendrye General Hospital with debit or credit card or online.  Local hotels and Airbnb's are also available.  Recruiter available for logistical support and questions.

Call Arrangements

On call is currently 1-in-8 shared by local doctors and locums. 12 or 24 hour shifts depending on personal preference.

Compensation Details

"Level 3A" ER  $420/hr 12 or 24 hours shifts available for Dec 22-27, 2026. If interested in Full Time ER position (or combination of Family Med and ER), the local Fort Frances and District Recruitment Committee offers a Community Incentive for a three to five year return of service and reimbursement for moving expenses. Memberships to municipal gym, pool and marina. To qualifying family physicians, the Northern Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative (NRRRI), provides approximately $138,000 incentive over four years. Teaching Opportunity

Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) places two student in the community. Teaching is available but optional.  We are affiliated with NOAMA, with our own Fort Frances Local Education Group (FFLEG).
