Clinical Academic Position – Spine Neurosurgeon
Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences
Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University
Appointment Type and Rank: Assistant or Associate Professor, Limited-Term (Clinical Academic) appointment, or Associate or Full Professor Continuing (Clinical Academic) appointment, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will hold a clinical academic appointment at Western University as a Clinician Teacher or Clinician Researcher.

Position Profile:
The Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, is seeking a full-time Clinical Academic Spinal Neurosurgeon (1 position available) within the Division of Neurosurgery in our affiliated teaching hospitals, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London.
The successful candidate will join the expanding Division of 12 surgeons, in a collegial, supportive environment. The ideal candidate will have expertise in endoscopic surgery, minimally invasive techniques and lateral/anterior approaches to the spine with opportunities to develop the robotics and minimally invasive spinal program at University Hospital as well as collaborations with the Orthopedic Spine Program at Victoria Hospital.
Experience, Skills and/or Clinical Expectations Required:
The successful candidate will work effectively within an interdisciplinary clinical and academic environment and will demonstrate strong communication with patients, families, colleagues, staff, and hospital leadership. Candidates must show a sustained record of academic activity in either clinical research or medical education, consistent with the Clinician Researcher or Clinician Teacher stream. Academic contributions will be assessed using standard metrics appropriate to each stream, including peer-reviewed publications, grant funding, educational leadership, curriculum development, and teaching effectiveness. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education within the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences and Surgery. The Division of Neurosurgery encourages all forms of innovation, device development and the adoption and development of new techniques. There are numerous opportunities for imaging, biomechanics, clinical and basic science research. Academic achievement will form a core component of the selection process.
Qualifications Required:
Applicants must hold an MD (or equivalent), be certified or eligible for certification in Neurosurgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent), be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario, and be eligible for medical staff appointment and clinical privileges at London Health Sciences Centre. Applicants must have completed a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery and demonstrate a commitment to comprehensive pediatric neurosurgical care.
Compensation Details:
Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and will be composed primarily of the following sources: fee for service, alternative funding plan and academic support.

The Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences comprises 36 neurologists and 12 neurosurgeons and serves as the single tertiary referral centre for Southwestern Ontario. The Department provides tertiary and quaternary services to a core population of approximately 1.8 million, with an extended referral base exceeding 3.5 million across Southwestern and Northern Ontario and the Niagara region.
