Job Description
Otolaryngology (ENT) Surgeon – General Otolaryngology
Health Sciences North - Sudbury, Ontario
The Opportunity
HSN is the largest hospital in Northern Ontario and the tertiary care referral centre for more than 600,000 residents. The Otolaryngology Service provides a broad and rewarding practice across adult and pediatric ENT, supported by a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, oncologists, radiologists, allied health professionals, and other specialists.
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in Pediatric Otolaryngology and a preference for incorporating pediatric ENT into a broad general otolaryngology practice. This is an opportunity to help meet a growing regional need for pediatric ENT care while maintaining the opportunity to develop a rewarding and diverse general ENT practice.
Areas of practice may include airway disorders, otology, rhinology, endocrine surgery, sleep surgery, and emergency/trauma call, depending on the candidate’s interests and training.
Why HSN?
- Largest tertiary care centre in Northern Ontario, serving a catchment population of over 600,000 residents
- Modern surgical facilities with 17 fully equipped operating rooms
- More than 16,000 operative procedures performed annually across multiple specialties
- Regional referral programs supporting a diverse and complex ENT practice
- Dedicated pediatric services and opportunities to develop and expand pediatric ENT care within the region
- Integrated Regional Cancer Program with multidisciplinary head and neck oncology collaboration
- Level III Intensive Care Unit and comprehensive respiratory support services
- Academic affiliation with NOSM University, providing opportunities for clinical teaching, learner mentorship, and collaborative research
- Access to research support through the Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI)
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a strong interest in Pediatric Otolaryngology and a desire to provide pediatric ENT care
- Have a strong interest in maintaining a broad general otolaryngology practice
- Be comfortable providing comprehensive ENT care to both pediatric and adult patients
- Have additional experience, a focused practice, or a particular interest in Pediatric Otolaryngology
- Be interested in contributing to the continued development and expansion of pediatric ENT services in Northern Ontario
Fellowship training in Pediatric Otolaryngology would be considered an asset, but is not required. Candidates with strong pediatric ENT experience, a focused pediatric practice, or a demonstrated interest in developing their pediatric expertise are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess:
- Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
- Specialist Certification in Otolaryngology
- A strong interest in Pediatric Otolaryngology and general otolaryngology
- Fellowship training, additional experience, or a focused practice in Pediatric Otolaryngology is preferred but not required
- Eligibility for a faculty appointment with NOSM University
- A commitment to supporting the academic mandate of the Otolaryngology Service through teaching and mentorship
This is an excellent opportunity for an Otolaryngologist who wants to build a rewarding pediatric-focused practice while maintaining a broad general ENT practice, within a supportive tertiary-care and academic environment serving Northern Ontario.
We welcome applications from candidates with or without formal Pediatric Otolaryngology fellowship training who have a strong interest in pediatric ENT and a commitment to comprehensive general otolaryngology care.
