Job Description

PEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGIST – LOCUM

The Department of Pediatrics, at Windsor Regional Hospital, is inviting applications for a Locum Pediatric Endocrinologist to join its Pediatric program. Compensation for this position will be primarily composed of OHIP fee-for-service and Hospital on-call coverage stipend. The anticipated start date for this position May 2025 with the possibility of the position changing to full-time.

The Department of Pediatrics consists of general pediatrics and various pediatric subspecialties. It houses both a Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU), a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as well as a range of ambulatory clinics including the 'Pediatric Diabetes and Metabolic Clinic', providing comprehensive in-patient and outpatient services to a population of about 400,000 in Windsor and Essex County of Southwestern Ontario.

The 'Pediatric Diabetes and Metabolic Clinic' manages approximately 250 patients with type 1 diabetes and 30 patients with type 2 diabetes. Each fiscal year, the clinic has between 4,000 and 5,000 patient visits, with nearly half of those visits related to diabetes care. The clinic is supported by 1 FTE Registered Nurse Certified Diabetes Educator (RN CDE), 1 FTE Registered Dietitian CDE, and a couple of part-time non-CDE registered nurses.

The 16- bedded CTU provides acute care for children with a wide variety of general pediatric conditions, including admissions locally from the Emergency Department, transfers from other hospitals within the region, as well as from the 22-bed Level 2C Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The ambulatory clinics, consisting of both general pediatric and subspecialty services, see around 10,000 clinic visits in a year. However, children needing pediatric intensive care and general surgery services are referred to regional tertiary children’s hospitals in London or Detroit. In recognition of the growing needs of the region, the Pediatric Program is part of the plans for a major reform of the Windsor-Essex Hospitals System, which includes construction of a state-of-the-art acute care hospital. WRH is actively planning to break ground on the new acute care hospital in 2026. To learn more, go to http://www.wrh.on.ca/windsorhospitals

Windsor is home to one of the two campuses of the MD program; and, one of the two clinical teaching units (CTU) of the Pediatric Residency program of Schulich Medicine at Western University. The members of the General Pediatric program also work closely with members of the NICU program, Family Medicine, Emergency, Obstetrics & Gynecology in clinical, teaching, and quality improvement activities.

The successful candidate is expected to participate in outpatient clinics, in-patient care (mostly as consultant) and on-call responsibilities. The clinical work consists of outpatient clinics in both pediatric endocrinology and pediatric diabetes as well as in-patient service coverage and on-call coverage. They will help foster an environment that supports patient safety, quality improvement research, and innovation. To support our educational mission, the successful candidate will actively contribute to educational and scholarly activities while serving as a role model for our undergraduate medical students and pediatric residents. They will be eligible to apply for a part-time appointment at Schulich Medicine, Western University and also cross-appointment at the Faculty of Science, University of Windsor.

Qualifications
• Candidates for this position must have an MD or equivalent degree and eligibility for licensing in the Province of Ontario.
• Subspecialty certification in Paediatric Endocrinology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent is required.
• English language proficiency is required.

About Windsor Regional Hospital
Windsor Regional Hospital offers the opportunity for a fantastic career in an award winning health care facility. WRH is a 600 bed multi-site health service organization providing Acute Medical and Surgical Services including Renal, Trauma, Emergency, Family Birthing Centre, Neonatal Intensive Care, Paediatric Services, Critical Care (ICU/CCU), Regional Cancer Services (Inpatient Oncology, Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, Breast Health Centre), Neurosciences and Mental Health Services to 400,000 people in Windsor and Essex County.

About Windsor and Essex County
The Windsor-Essex area is ecologically rich with extensive parkland along with a southwest location that extends warm weather activities such a golfing, gardening, and water sports. Windsor offers the unique opportunities of a larger metropolitan area and the benefits of a smaller community. Living directly across the border from Detroit, Michigan places you on a cosmopolitan stage where arts, culture, big league sports, and entertainment are just moments away. Best of all, you can enjoy access to all of these big-city advantages while living in the relative tranquility (and low costs) of a much smaller, friendlier community.

Interested candidates should submit their application, including Curriculum Vitae, Letter of Interest/Statement of Academic Qualifications, and names, and contact information, of three academic references, to:
