Recovery Alberta Department of Addictions & Mental Health, in partnership with the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Psychiatry, at the University of Alberta (http://psychiatry.med.ualberta.ca/) are inviting applications for an Academic Medicine and Health Service Program (AMHSP) position for a psychiatry Clinician Educator or Clinician Investigator. The Department of Psychiatry has been approved by Alberta Health as a new AMHSP program which is jointly overseen by Recovery Alberta and the University of Alberta. These contingent tenure track professorship positions present an exciting opportunity to establish a viable academic medicine career path outside of traditional tenure track University positions and are ideally suited to clinicians who also value education, research, quality, and leadership as a part of their professional identity.
The candidate(s) selected for this position will be referred to the AMHSP Arrangement Management Committee to finalize yearly individual service agreement jointly approved by the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and Addiction and Mental Health, Recovery Alberta.
Remuneration:
Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Total compensation will be commensurate with education and experience and ranges based on a number of different factors and can range between $405,904 to $506,522 per year (2024 numbers). Total Compensation for AMHSP varies by individual practitioner, and the compensation shown reflects the average amounts for this specialty as reported by Alberta Health.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have an MD, preference will be given to MD/PhD in an area relevant to psychiatric research and must have at least two years of appropriate experience relevant to clinical translational research in psychiatry. Preference will be given to clinician scientists who are working in addictions and/or child & adolescent psychiatry or other under-serviced, high clinical priority areas of importance to Recovery Alberta. The successful candidates will be expected to work at least 0.2-0.4 clinical FTE with Recovery Alberta.
University of Alberta appointments are targeted at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. All candidates should have an excellent emerging record of research accomplishment, including success in competing for external awards at the provincial or national level, and the ability to mentor research trainees effectively.
