Job Description

Come work as a Psychiatrist, Operational Stress Injury (OSI) with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

There are positions located in VCH offices in Victoria.

As one of British Columbia's six regional health authorities, VCH is a world class innovator in medical care, research and teaching, delivering service to in excess of one million BC residents with more than 18,000 full time staff, and over $4.1 billion in funding.

As an Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Psychiatrist with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
• Provide direct patient care including diagnostic assessments, assessments for disability, and ongoing treatment for CAF members, veterans, and RCMP within the context of a multidisciplinary team/program. Most care is provided virtually at present due to COVID restrictions. Use of our electronic medical records system and computer skills are required.
• Attend staff meetings, quality improvement reviews, and comply with VCHA medical staff rules, by-laws and policies.
• Be required to travel occasionally to provide outreach services within BC once travel is deemed safe again.

Why join the Operational Stress Injury Clinic?
The Clinic provides specialized mental health services to clients and their families referred by Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Department of National Defense (DND) who are experiencing problems due to work-related psychological trauma and stress (e.g. post-traumatic stress disorder and other anxiety disorders; depression; chronic pain; addiction etc.). The services of the OSI clinics are provided by an interdisciplinary team of psychiatry, psychology, nursing, social work and external contracted specialists. The clinic is funded by VAC and is operated by VCHA which provides services across BC and in the Yukon.

Please note that a resume and cover letter are required to apply for this position.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
