Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Zone invites applications for the role of Zone Section Chief, Surgical Hospital Medicine, Family Medicine.
This 0.20 FTE position governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules, reports to the Zone Clinical Department Head (ZCDH), Family Medicine.
The Section Chief, Surgical Hospital Medicine, is a leadership role contributing guidance and advice for strategic planning, program development and quality care for patients receiving clinical care through the Section of Surgical Hospital Medicine. This medical-administrative leader will work with both the Surgery and Family Medicine leadership teams contributing expert guidance and advice to matters within the Department of Family Medicine; and conducting rigorous performance management and quality improvement.
This leadership position is accountable for ensuring effective support at the site level for clinical service delivery, teaching and research, patient safety, quality management and more. The role will also support recruitment and retention of physicians to the section and liaise with Zone Councils and other site medical leaders.
This position has an expected start date as soon as possible with an expected term length of 1 year, renewable.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution and a passion for quality and patient safety. They will be an inclusive and visionary leader with significant experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers.
The successful candidate will possess superior interpersonal skills, have demonstrated supervisory experience and be an excellent clinician with the respect of their peers. The successful candidate also will be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of the Department of Family Medicine.
Candidates must possess Certification in the College of Family Physicians (CCFP), or equivalent designation, be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.
