Job Description
Psychiatrist (In person – Part-Time or Contract)
Location: 69 Gradwell Dr. Scarborough, ON M1M 2N1
Organization: New Beginnings Recovery Home
About Us
New Beginnings Recovery Home is one of Canada’s first BIPOC-owned residential addiction and mental health treatment centres. Located in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), we specialize in trauma-informed, culturally safe care for underserved communities.
We are currently seeking a compassionate, licensed psychiatrist to join our team. You will play a key role in conducting intake assessments for clients entering our 28-day residential recovery program. There is also potential to co-facilitate group therapy sessions virtually (at an adjusted rate).
Role Overview
You will conduct psychiatric and medical intake assessments to determine each client’s eligibility, readiness, and safety for residential addiction treatment.
Key Responsibilities
· Conduct intake assessments for incoming residential clients
· Review client history (e.g., substance use, psychiatric diagnoses, medications, co-morbidities)
· Identify any contraindications, risks, or detox needs
· Provide clearance for admission or refer to alternate levels of care as clinically indicated
· Supervise and sign off on individualized treatment plans
· Collaborate with our intake and clinical teams; provide direction as needed
· Optional: Co-facilitate group sessions (separately compensated)
Qualifications
· MD with FRCPC in Psychiatry
· Licensed to practice in Ontario
· Member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
· Eligible to bill OHIP directly or under a group billing arrangement for psychiatric assessments and counselling (e.g., K-codes)
· Experience in addiction medicine, mental health, or family medicine preferred
· Comfortable delivering care via virtual platforms
· Committed to a trauma-informed and equity-centered model of care
Time Commitment
· Flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends available)
· Assessments typically range from 20–40 minutes per client
Compensation
A combination of the following may be offered based on scope of work and mutual agreement:
· Competitive hourly rate starting at $300/Hr
· Revenue split on eligible OHIP-billable services (e.g., K-codes, psychiatric assessments)
· Per-assessment fees for comprehensive evaluations or admission-related consultations
All rates are negotiable based on experience.
Billing & Collaboration Structure
· Willing to enter into a collaborative billing agreement with New Beginnings
· Group billing registration with OHIP will be required to submit claims for eligible services delivered by New Beginnings’ allied health staff (e.g., social workers, psychotherapists)
· OHIP-billed revenue will be shared between the physician and New Beginnings based on a mutually agreed split
· In return, the physician will receive:
o Consistent client referrals
o Access to qualified support staff
o Clinical infrastructure (e.g., charting system, treatment planning tools)
o Administrative support for scheduling, documentation, and billing
