Job Description

Academic Geriatrician, Division of Geriatric Medicine

McMaster University

The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences invite applications for a full-time Academic Geriatrician in the Clinician-Educator stream.

We are seeking a collaborative and enthusiastic academic geriatrician who will contribute to the continued clinical, educational, and scholarly success of the Division of Geriatric Medicine. Diverse and complementary interests and experience are valued, including research, education, quality improvement, innovation, and clinical leadership. A demonstrated commitment to education at all levels and excellence in teaching is essential.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a growth mindset, a commitment to academic excellence, and a passion for contributing meaningfully to the Division's mission while pursuing a successful academic career within the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The Division of Geriatric Medicine consists of 14 geographically distributed full-time faculty members across the Hamilton, Niagara, and Waterloo campuses, as well as more than 25 affiliated part-time faculty members. Clinical work will be based within the Hamilton Health Sciences network, which offers a broad range of inpatient and outpatient specialized geriatric services at St. Peter's Hospital, Hamilton General Hospital, Juravinski Hospital, and West Lincoln Memorial Hospital. The successful candidate will contribute to the care of older adults with complex health needs and participate in the Division's academic and educational activities.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing professional development education through teaching, learner supervision, mentorship, and curriculum development. Opportunities exist to pursue scholarly activity, quality improvement initiatives, research, innovation, and leadership development consistent with the candidate's interests and career goals.

The position offers excellent opportunities for academic, professional, and leadership development within a highly collaborative division and department. This is a full-time faculty position for a period of three years (renewable). Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Applicants must be certified (or eligible for certification) in Geriatric Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or hold an equivalent designation. Applicants must also hold, or be eligible for, independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
