ACADEMIC POSITION – Clinician Teacher

 

The Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University and London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care Centre are seeking a full-time clinical academic appointment to Western University.

ABOUT THE DIVISION:
The Division of General Internal Medicine currently has 23 dynamic members with diverse clinical and academic interests, and is well-recognized and respected both nationally and internationally. The Division’s physicians aspire to provide excellence in clinical teaching, patient care and research. Many of our division members also have major administrative and educational leadership roles. The Division has a fully certified Royal College Subspecialty Training Program in General Internal Medicine.

ACADEMIC AND CLINICAL EXPECTATIONS: The successful candidate will be expected to:
1. Pursue an academic educational focus in area of interest, with a possibility of pursuing a graduate degree (e.g. Master of Education, Quality Improvement and Patient Safety)
2. Teach and supervise undergraduate medical students and residents in outpatient and inpatient clinical settings
3. Engage in small-group teaching of undergraduate medical students.
4. May have a clinical area of subspecialty interest (e.g. Obstetric Medicine, PoCUS, Bariatric Medicine, Lifestyle Medicine, Perioperative Medicine etc.)
5. Participate in inpatient medicine (i.e. Clinical Teaching Unit) and consult medicine service
6. Participate in preoperative assessment clinics and urgent medical clinics, as well as general internal medicine clinics
7. Applicants considered at the rank of Associate Professor must have demonstrated regional/national expertise in their field and those considered at Full Professor must be a recognized expert in their field at the national/international level.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
1. Hold an MD, MBBS, or equivalent.
2. Be certified (or be eligible for certification) in General Internal Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
3. Be licensed (or be eligible for licensure) through the College of Physicians of Surgeons of Ontario
4. Communicate (oral and written) proficiently in English
5. Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance in teaching, research, health care leadership, qualifications (including subspecialty and enhanced training), experience, and interpersonal skills.

The successful candidate will hold a limited-term academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a continuing academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, depending on qualifications and experience.

COMPENSATION DETAILS: Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be primarily composed of the following sources: Fee for service (OHIP billings), Alternative Funding Plan, academic salary, and specialty review funding.
