This position is part of Recovery Alberta, supporting our ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare services across the province.
Description:
This Addiction Physician position functions as a member of the Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) team, an interdisciplinary health and treatment team at Adult Addiction Services Calgary. The Recovery Alberta - operated RAAM clinic supports individuals with various substance use issues in addition to a variety of behavioural addictions, like gambling and compulsive disorders. It provides psychiatric care and assessments, specifically for residential treatment centre referrals and Home Detoxification services.
The Addiction Physician provides medical assessments for addiction and mental health. They will work in a case management protocol with an RN and provide medication-assisted treatment for patients experiencing a variety of substance use disorders including opioids, alcohol, stimulants, cannabis, and benzodiazepine tapering guidance. We offer in-person or virtual care services, with rapid access to medication-assisted treatment for addiction disorders where evidence-based treatment is available. We provide both short-term stabilization, addiction counselling, psychiatric care, longer-term follow-up care including supporting post discharge from in-patient addiction care.
The RAAM program will provide comprehensive care and treatment of addiction and mental health including trauma therapy and connection to recovery services. The Addiction Physicians will be supported by psychiatry and psychology to provide optimal care for those suffering with addiction. The RAAM will also work hand-in-hand with community organizations supporting addiction and harm reduction to improve access to all services. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting individuals facing substance use challanges, increasing access to evidence-based addiction treatment, meeting patients where they are at and putting them first in a collaborative person-centred process with shared decision making.
