Job Description

Description:

The Department of Clinical Neurosciences (http://www.ucalgary.ca/dcns/) at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, invites applications for a neurosurgery position with a focus on adult hydrocephalus, with a university appointment at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor.

The successful candidate will join the Division of Neurosurgery at the University of Calgary. The position will be based at Foothills Medical Centre. The successful candidate will be expected to provide exceptional clinical care in adult hydrocephalus and to participate in acute care coverage for adult neurosurgery. The Division of Neurosurgery benefits from an innovative Adult Hydrocephalus program and a dedicated clinic, in which the successful candidate will play a central role. The clinic operates with another neurosurgeon and a nurse practitioner, and actively participates in multicentre research protocols, including those of the Adult Hydrocephalus Research Network. The successful candidate will be expected to support and contribute to the growth of these research activities. Divisional expertise in pediatric hydrocephalus presents an excellent opportunity for longitudinal clinical and research collaboration. Protected time and support for academic activities will be negotiated based on the candidate’s track record and academic plan. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to the teaching of residents, clinical and research fellows, medical students, and graduate students.

The successful candidate will join an established Division of Neurosurgery comprising 18 faculty members who work within a multidisciplinary environment of clinical and academic programs, fostering focus on individual areas of interest and expertise.

The successful candidate is expected to commence the position between July 1, 2026, and September 30, 2026, with the start date being negotiable. Remuneration will be provided through a Fee-for-Service model.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications include an MD and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada specialist certification in Neurosurgery, or equivalent. Candidates must demonstrate clinical expertise in adult hydrocephalus, acquired through fellowship training or equivalent clinical experience. Applicants must demonstrate a track record of scholarly activity, including 8 or more published works within the preceding ten years. The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta.

This is a major clinical position within an academic neurosurgery program. While the successful candidate will be expected to engage with the division’s academic culture and contribute to the training of the next generation of academic neurosurgeons, primary emphasis in candidate evaluation will be placed on a demonstrated track record of excellent surgical clinical care. Applicants are encouraged to provide information in their application materials that speaks to the scope, quality and outcomes of their clinical practice.

Interested applicants should contact Dr. Steph Casha (***@albertahealthservices.ca (🔒 Premium)) for further information.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, a statement of clinical and research/education interests (not to exceed two pages), and the names of three (3) referees by May 30, 2026 to:

Dr. Steph Casha, Section Head Department of Clinical Neurosciences Room 1195, Foothills Medical Centre 1403 – 29th Street N.W. Calgary, Alberta, T2N 2T9 Email: ***@albertahealthservices.ca (🔒 Premium)
