Job Description

Job Summary:
 
The Associate Chief Medical Information Officer (ACMIO) is a key leadership role within the Chief Medical Information Office (CMIO) team. Reporting jointly to the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) and the Chief Medical Officer Assisted Living Alberta (ALA), the ACMIO works in partnership with clinical, operational, and IT leaders to advance the integration of clinical informatics across the continuum of care.
 
As a trusted advisor and catalyst for change, the ACMIO champions the strategic adoption and optimization of Digital Health initiatives, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation to support high-quality, patient-centered, and evidence-informed care. The ACMIO also plays a critical role in aligning clinical informatics initiatives with the broader organizational goals and the needs of ALA.
 
This role provides physician informatics leadership for Home, Community and Continuing Care programs, including specialized geriatric services and palliative care workflows across Assisted Living Alberta. 

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
In this capacity, the ACMIO is entrusted with the following responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Development:
•    Mentor a robust prescriber medical informatics team, ensuring alignment of the team with Health Shared Services and Assisted Living Alberta Digital Health priorities, standards, and policies.
•    Foster a network of engaged and motivated clinical informatics leaders and physician champions, supporting their professional growth and collaboration.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:
•    Build and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including clinical leaders, academic partners, and operational teams, to drive clinical informatics excellence and improved care outcomes.
•    Actively engage with Connect Care leadership and corridor stakeholders to promote alignment with standards, collaboration and physician engagement during system design, build, and optimization.

Clinical Information Systems Leadership:
•    Advocate for and support the adoption and optimization of Connect Care and other Digital Health platforms used in Assisted Living Alberta.
•    Collaborate with clinical operations and corridor leadership to advance clinical innovations that are enabled by clinical information systems (CIS) to enhance patient care.

Strategic Guidance and Decision-Making:
•    Influence the direction of clinical informatics initiatives by providing strategic insights on clinical transformation, CIS development, and operational priorities.
•    Represent clinical and operational needs in CIS and informatics-related discussions, ensuring alignment with corridor and provincial goals, as well as Health Shared Services clinical systems design and implementation standards.

Change Management and Education:
•    Champion clinical transformation by promoting awareness, education, and adoption of CIS tools and workflows across the province.
•    Oversee the development and execution of change management strategies, ensuring that clinicians are supported through system transitions and enhancements.

Committee Representation and Governance:
•    Actively participate in and/or chair senior committees in the Health Shared Services (HSS) clinical informatics governance structure, and/or as applicable, at the corridor, provincial, and external levels, ensuring alignment of clinical informatics work with organizational and Health Shared Services priorities.
•    Collaborate with governance groups to validate and prioritize CIS enhancements and innovation selection processes when applicable.

Innovation and Quality Improvement:
•    Drive innovation in clinical care delivery by identifying opportunities to leverage CIS and informatics to enhance quality, safety, and efficiency of patient care.
•    Support the development and dissemination of best practices, evidence-based methodologies, and knowledge translation in clinical informatics.

•    Clear communication and presentation skills, coupled with a pragmatic problem-solving approach.

•    Proficiency in aligning business practices with organizational objectives and strategies.
•    A visionary who can contribute to the innovation, integration, and consistency of patient-centered clinical care.
 
Reporting Relationship: 
The practitioner will report to the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO).

Remuneration: Remuneration is in accordance with CMO Policy 01-01.
