Family Physician - Peterborough Community Health Centre
Compensation: Annual Salary of $331,968 plus group benefits, and HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension), 4 weeks paid vacation and paid education days
Terms: Part-time/Full-time, 0.5 - 1.0 FTE, permanent
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday with some evenings and occasional weekends

JOB SUMMARY
As part of our commitment to providing safe, culturally appropriate care that is free of discrimination for all, the PCHC is working to improve health care for all people across the region with a dedicated focus to closing the gaps in health and social disparities for Indigenous people in our community. PCHC recognizes Indigenous history, culture and traditions are unique and want to ensure that services are inclusive and appropriately meet their needs.
The Family Physician (MD) will provide wholistic and culturally informed primary health care services to individuals and families, and communities. Working with the interdisciplinary team, the MD will assist with health promotion, illness prevention and treatment, health education, awareness, counseling, and education. The MD will be mindful of cultural practices, approaches and traditional medicines that support wholistic care and services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES
• Work collaboratively with the health promotion team in the design and implementation of services and programs to address the social determinants of health.
• Responsible and accountable for the comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, health education/counselling and other clinical activities according to the College of Physicians and Surgeons Ontario standards of practice for Physicians.
• Provide harm reduction strategies that support a balanced state of well-being among clients.
• Participate in case conferences with other providers to ensure coordination of services to the client.
• Maintain a level of care that meets wholistic and ethical standards based on the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario requirements.
• Provide most responsible provider cross coverage within the primary care team.
• Strictly adhere to the Confidentiality and Privacy Policies and all other policies and procedures of PCHC.
• Ensure that effective and efficient use is made of all resources available to the Community Health Centre to respond to the health and wellness needs of the community - including internal referrals to other staff and programs as appropriate.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities consistent with the scope and intent of the position
JOB REQUIREMENTS
• All employees of PCHC are required to submit a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Screening upon hire and every 3-5 years thereafter.
• Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), its regulations and all CHC occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
• Availability to participate in meetings, community engagement events, and other health promotion activities after regular work hours on occasion.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Unconscious Bias training (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Work Experience:
• Current registration in good standing as a Physician with the College of Physicians and Surgeons Ontario.
• Experience in a community based medical/clinical setting working with a diverse, multicultural population and specifically with Indigenous community.
• Knowledge of community resources, treatment centers, social service networks, and organizations.
• Experience working with people having mental health and/or substance use struggles from a wholistic, person-centered, harm reduction perspective.
• Experience in sexual health, women’s health, and seniors’ health is an asset.
Skills and Abilities:
• Practice from a harm reduction philosophy.
• An ability to advocate and provide crisis intervention.
• Must provide effective listening, observation, and facilitation.
• Be able to apply knowledge and understanding of infection control and preventative practices.
• Ability to deal with demanding interpersonal situations and respond with good judgment and understanding.
• Experience with TELUS/PSS EMR would be an asset.
• Demonstrated commitment to, and knowledge of community-based health care.
• Ability to work independently and problem solve.

• Physical Demands – Long periods of sitting and in front of a computer, typing and some walking. Lifting of some objects up to five pounds.
• Environment – Mainly an indoor office environment with exposure to outside during travel and events. Exposure to health hazards include, infectious diseases, potential physical and verbal violence, working alone, slips trips and fall, uncontrolled substances and other. It is important that the employee be able to identify hazards, have the knowledge and training to handle any situation. Minimal exposure to hazardous material such as cleaning supplies.
• Mental Effort – Quick thinking for frequent handling of difficult situations that some may find stressful and / or upsetting. A CHC is a busy environment that can be frequently noisy and interruptive. The incumbent will need excellent organizational, time and stress management skills to complete the required tasks.
