Job Description
The CCDL is an important role, required under the medical staff bylaws and rules. Principal responsibilities relate to the day-to-day running of the department and working with operational staff to deliver high quality, safe patient care.
Although the CCDL has a number of formal responsibilities under the bylaws, perhaps the most important part of their work is developing a culture of collaboration between department members, between the department and operational staff, and with other departments to ensure delivery of high quality and safe patient care. The CCDL, together with operational leadership, is responsible for planning and provision of Orthopedics services throughout Central Corridor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Convene and manage meetings of the Central Corridor Orthopedics Department
- Meet with operational DYAD partner regularly
- Work with other Corridor Clinical Departments where appropriate
- Leadership Talent Development and succession planning
- Leadership development of departmental members
- Attend Zone Medical Advisory Committee (ZMAC) meetings; RDRHC Facility Medical Administrative Committee (FMAC)
- Periodic reviews for department members (every 3 years, or annual for staff > 65 years old)
- Represent the department in Corridor and Provincial work
- Identify need for and manage recruitment together with Medical Affairs
- Workforce service planning
- Manage local issues related to physicians, including concerns and complaints
- Identify organizational risks (patient safety, political, media) and escalate to medical and operational leadership
- Represent the department positively to external stakeholders on a regional basis
