Job Description

Position Description:

Reporting to the Diagnostic Imaging Department Head and the medical director for the sector, the radiologist performs specialized clinical work using imaging techniques to study, diagnose and treat diseases. Based on the type of practice determined by their department, the radiologist plays mostly an advisory role with other physicians by interpreting medical images obtained using X-rays (radiography and computer tomography), sound waves (ultrasound) and magnetic fields (magnetic resonance imaging). The radiologist may be required to perform interventional procedures, such as biopsies and drainages. In collaboration with the attending physician and the patient, the radiologist plans, organizes and integrates medical imaging exams and interprets their results for diagnostic and treatment identification purposes.

Job Duties:

Duties can be diverse: general radiology, nuclear medicine, interventional radiology. The specific type of practice anticipated is described in the letter of offer and is approved by the department head, based on the needs of the sector. 

Responsibilities include the following clinical and administrative duties:  

  • Study, diagnose and treat diseases; 
  • Prescribe treatment as needed;  
  • Provide appropriate follow-up;  
  • Act as a medical consultant with attending physicians and specialists; 
  • Carry out on-call duties with the other physicians from their department as needed. 

 

In collaboration with the department head and medical director, and based on the needs and modalities of the sector: 

  • Participate in the planning and evaluation of programs (e.g. Choosing Wisely program);  
  • Take part in certain medical and administrative activities within the department or organization, as stipulated in the By-Laws, the Medical Staff Rules and the departmental rules.

Remuneration:

Fee for Service

Standard remuneration is Fee-for-Service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. On call remuneration is provided. No source deductions can be provided.

Qualifications:

Training

Degree from a recognized medical school and residency granting a licence in radiology 


A recognized medical school is a school that meets the following criterium: 

  • accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) or the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) (in the United States);  

OR 


Experience

One to three years’ experience will be considered an asset. 

Any other combination of training and experience deemed relevant, and equivalent may be considered. 



Professional Requirements:

  • Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick* 
  • Specialist credential recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick 
  • Active membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association or equivalent liability insurance association* 
  • Membership in the New Brunswick Medical Society 
  • Privileges with Vitalité Health Network 
  • Registration with New Brunswick Medicare

$100,000.00 accompanied by a 4 year return of service.

The Chaleur Regional Hospital is located in Bathurst. It has about 215 beds and provides a wide range of primary, secondary, regional, and specialty services.

The Chaleur Regional Hospital is a certified partner in the Family Medicine Program at the Université de Sherbrooke and the nursing programs at the Université de Moncton and the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton.
