Job Description
The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) Department of Laboratory Medicine is seeking a full-time Pathologist to join its collegial and well-established team of four pathologists. The successful candidate will contribute to a broad range of diagnostic services including general surgical pathology, gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology, hematology, transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, and microbiology. NBRHC pathologists are also actively engaged in a comprehensive Quality Assurance and quality improvement program, supporting high standards of diagnostic excellence and patient care.
This is an excellent opportunity to practice in a modern health care centre serving Northeastern Ontario while enjoying the exceptional lifestyle and recreational opportunities of Northern Ontario.
Hospital & Service Information:
North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a modern, state-of-the-art healthcare facility that opened in 2011 and serves as a key regional referral centre for Northeastern Ontario. With 480 beds, NBRHC provides a broad range of acute care and specialized services to a catchment population that includes North Bay and surrounding communities across the Nipissing District.
The Department of Laboratory Medicine provides comprehensive diagnostic laboratory services in support of inpatient care and hospital-based outpatient programs across the organization. The laboratory includes a Core Laboratory (hematology, clinical biochemistry, and transfusion medicine) as well as microbiology, histopathology, and cytology services, supported by centralized specimen procurement, phlebotomy, and central receiving.
The laboratory delivers timely diagnostic testing for acute care, critical care, surgical, medical, and specialty programs, with 24/7 coverage for critical testing and rapid turnaround for routine investigations. Most testing is performed on-site, with access to specialized reference laboratories for complex or highly specialized assays.
Working in close collaboration with clinical teams across the hospital, the laboratory supports patient care for a regional population throughout Nipissing District and surrounding Northern Ontario communities, providing high-quality diagnostic services essential to emergency medicine, oncology, renal, surgical, inpatient, and ambulatory programs.
Community Information:
Often referred to as Ontario’s Gateway to the North, the community of North Bay offers an exceptional balance of professional opportunity and quality of life. With a population of approximately 54,000, North Bay is a safe, welcoming city situated about 3.5 hours from Toronto and 4.5 hours from Ottawa.
Surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes, including the shores of Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake, the city offers four distinct seasons and abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation such as boating, fishing, skiing, hiking and cycling. North Bay also features a diverse and growing economy, excellent schools, and a vibrant arts and cultural scene. Combining the amenities of a mid-sized city with the charm and accessibility of Northern Ontario, North Bay provides an ideal environment to build a rewarding medical career while enjoying a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
