Brief Overview of ED

The Emergency Department at St. Joseph's Elliot Lake 30 - 40 patients per 24-hour shift with volume significantly decreased from 11pm to 7am.

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is staffed 10am-10pm daily to assist with low acuity volumes.

The hospital as a 24 hour lab, CT scan and modern Diagnostic Imaging services available 7 days a week.

Admitted Patients

All admitted patients are moved to inpatient beds with care by Hospitalist program. Only those patients admitted after 2000 are cared for by ED Physician until 0800. SJGHEL has a level 2 Intensive Care Unit that is overseen by the Hospitalist program.

On Call:

Obstetrics, Anesthesia and General Surgery on call.

Handover:

The ED Physician will hand over all patients at end of shift with physician to physician process in place.

Available Shift Types:

12, 24 & 36 hour shifts available to suit your needs. Longer volume based contracts are encouraged and available upon request.

Remuneration:

Premium and Super Premium Rates available for Holiday Coverage

Travel is covered through the Northern Specialist Locum Program (NSLP) and includes; travel days, airfare, mileage, car rental, parking.

Accomodations:

SJGHEL works with local providers and can help arrange accommodations.

*Fast-track credentialing offered with administrative assistance. Approval based on successful credentialing*

Physician Requirements

• Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Emergency Medicine, CCFP-EM, or CCFP.
• Licensed to practice as an Emergency Physician (or Family Physician) in the Province of Ontario.
• Have updated certification in ACLS or ATLS.
• Have Canadian Medical Protective Associate (CMPA) coverage.

• Gynecology/Obstetrics – provide consultations and surgery.
