Position: Family Medicine Physician 1.0 FTE permanent, but will consider part-time as well.

POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of an interprofessional team and reporting to the Director, Health and Community Services, the full-service Family Medicine Physician (excluding obstetrics or hospital work) will provide care in clinic and via virtual visits with clients, with a focus on a holistic approach to wellness. The physician will work as part of an interdisciplinary team including Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Social System Navigators and other allied health professionals, the Diabetes Education team, and Mental Health team.
There are no overhead costs or OHIP billing associated with this fully salaried position.
QUALIFICATIONS and ASSETS
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
- Certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada or equivalent practical experience.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- 2 or more years of experience working as a Family Medicine Physician in a community-based primary health care setting preferred.
- Demonstrates commitment to the concepts underpinning the unique role of Aboriginal Health Access Centres (AHACs) and a desire to collaboratively contribute to this AHAC’s vision, mission, and values.
- Experience providing primary care for clients with addictions, including ability to effectively prescribe and manage narcotics.
- Demonstrates a high level of clinical skill and competence working with socially complex clients.
- An egalitarian philosophy and non-judgmental attitude regarding gender, culture, race, sexual orientation, language, ability and more.
- Previous experience providing culturally safe, trauma informed care to marginalized populations.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary, culturally diverse teams.
- Experience applying strategies or practices to address social determinants of health and health inequity.
- Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, manage challenging behavior, and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques.
- Satisfactory police record check with vulnerable sector screen.
- An asset to have demonstrated experience establishing new clinical services.
- Ability to speak or understand Ojibway/Cree is an asset.
