The Saskatchewan Health Authority is seeking a Family Physician to provide full time primary care and acute care services in the Spiritwood and District Health Complex located in the town of Spiritwood.

The Spiritwood and District Health Complex is an integrated healthcare centre with primary care, long-term care, ambulatory care, home care, public health, mental health, therapies and a variety of other health care services. The long-term care facility has space for 46 residents, with 3 dedicated for respite.

Physicians are largely responsible for Primary Care/Collaborative Emergency Centre, long-term care and acute care, and work together with a team of nurse practitioners.

This position is also may be eligible for the Rural Physician Incentive Program of up to $200,000 over five years to family physicians practicing, or returning to practice, in rural and remote communities in Saskatchewan.

Open spaces, northern lights rippling across the star filled skies, fresh air and wheat fields and some of the most breathtaking sunsets against the prairie horizon is what you will find in Spiritwood. An agricultural centre situated in the North Central Parkland District, an area of relatively good soils, is home to grain and livestock farmers, the chief industry in the area.

Spiritwood has a population of about 1,000 and is located 125 kilometers west of Prince Albert and about 110 kilometers northeast of North Battleford at the junction of highways 3, 24, and 378. Settlers first began moving into the Spiritwood district in 1912. In 1935, the hamlet was incorporated into a village. In 1965, the Village of Spiritwood was incorporated as a town.

As the largest community in the region, the community functions as the major supply, service, and administrative centre for a trading area population of several thousand including four First Nations communities. Mixed farming predominates and consists primarily of grain production. A Spiritwood company that focuses on pig genetics, producing breeding stock and commercial swine, has roughly 50 employees.

There is some forestry in the region north of Spiritwood. The town has a complete range of recreational facilities and additionally, there are six golf courses in the district, six regional parks, and about 35 lakes within an hour’s drive.
