Job Description

We are seeking an innovative physician to join our team as a Medical Director (MD) for Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC), Cloverdale, Surrey. The MD will build and support a culture of patient and care-team safety and clinical effectiveness, where the patient and family are the centre of clinical system design. As a consensus builder, you lead by example and understand how to address site needs within the broader context of the health delivery system and multiple service delivery requirements. The successful candidate will have the flexibility to work partially on-site as required. If this work sparks excitement within you, we welcome you to join our collaborative team.

This position reports to the Regional Medical Director (RMD) for Primary Care Integration.

Community: Surrey

Known as the City of Parks, Surrey has over 6,000 acres of parkland and 15 golf courses and driving ranges. Also, despite rapid growth, Surrey has held onto the rural flavour of its past, with about 35 per cent of its land designated as agricultural and still actively farmed.

Key Areas of Involvement:

Effective Delivery of Clinical Services

Ensure that Clinic physicians deliver services appropriately within the remit of the Urgent and Primary Care Centre.

Quality and Utilization Monitoring/Improvement

Ensure physician members of the clinic are engaged in multidisciplinary quality improvement and utilization management activities within the clinic.
Ensure that Family Physicians are engaged in reviews of activities regarding expected standards of medical practice.
Investigate complaints regarding care provided by physicians working in the clinic, in collaboration with the RMD when appropriate.

Administration

Attend meetings of the UPCC Medical Directors as coordinated by the RMD.
Provide a communication channel to and from Fraser Health leadership regarding regional and local objectives, general activities and other clinic relevant issues.
Recommend and contribute to policies and guidelines, relating to medical/clinical matters, that are consistent with agreed to goals.
Promote health and wellness amongst department members.
Encourage a healthy, respectful workplace.
Review the physician resource requirements of the clinic with clinic management, the local Collaborative Services Committee, and the RMD.
Contribute to the selection of new physician staff members joining the clinic.
Dispute resolution and mediate disputes involving clinic physicians.

 Medical Legal Issues

Identify potential liability issues and legal problems within the clinic and provides advice for specific cases/files to the RMD and/or Legal Counsel, as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

Current licensure with CPSBC and Canadian College of Family Physicians (CCFP) plus two (2) years leadership experience within the healthcare sector.
Additional training in management is preferred and prior academic leadership experience is an asset.
Demonstrated leadership in roles to lead and move forward organizational change in primary care.
Sound working knowledge of running a primary care clinic including staffing, budgeting, quality improvement activity and service delivery.
Proven verbal and written communication and presentation skills within a leadership capacity.
Term:

The term of appointment as UPCC Medical Directors shall be for three (3) years, renewable by the RMD. In recommending re-appointment of a UPCC Medical Director, the RMD shall consider the results of annual performance reviews.

Expenses:

The Physician, upon presentation of receipts, shall be reimbursed for expenses incurred by the Physician while providing the Services, in accordance with FH’s Travel and Business Expenses Policy.

Time Commitment: 0.2 FTE

Interested candidates may submit a letter of interest and CV.
