Job Description

Join Our Team of Dedicated Psychiatrists

Fraser Health, British Columbia’s largest health authority, is seeking a skilled and compassionate Geriatric Psychiatrist to provide care to our diverse patient population in a dynamic and fulfilling environment. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity for psychiatrists to be a part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing integrated, timely and compassionate care within the hospital and in the community.

Join Us in Transforming Patient Care

Fraser Health offers a supportive environment for Psychiatrists seeking rewarding careers in a growing, innovative health system. If you're a US-trained physician looking for new opportunities in a world-class health care region, we encourage you to apply.

This position will be based in Surrey with a 1.0 FTE composed of Geriatric Consultation Liaison, Electroconvulsive Therapy and Hospitalist Medical Behavioural Stabilization Unit.

As a qualified or eligible Psychiatrist, you'll be expected to deliver exceptional care to patients with acquired brain injuries, alongside older adult patients served by the Fraser Health Geriatric Mental Health team, within an interdisciplinary framework. Your responsibilities will include consulting with Geriatric psychiatrists at the mental health center, actively engaging in outreach to patients' residences, and collaborating with attending physicians in Assisted Living and Long-Term Care facilities. Your role will encompass a spectrum of services such as assessment, outpatient treatment, consultation, conducting family meetings, facilitating case conferences, discharge planning, and imparting knowledge to geriatric psychiatry residents and medical students.

Furthermore, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring continuity of care by fostering strong collaborative relationships with all relevant partners involved in patient care and advocating for the psychiatric needs of individual patients. Participation in the ECT roster and ER on-call duties is mandatory to fulfill the requirements of this role.

Qualifications:

- Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC).
- FRCPC (Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada) or FRCPC Eligible.
- CPSBC-USA certified class of registration acceptable.
