Job Description

We are seeking an adult or pediatric epileptologist to join and expand the regional epilepsy program at Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre (JPOCSC). The focus of this role is to provide high-quality, timely care for patients with complex epilepsy transitioning from BC Children's Hospital or community-based services into the adult healthcare system.

The successful candidate will join an established group of epileptologists providing outpatient epilepsy care at JPOCSC. This role includes developing multidisciplinary programs for complex epilepsy populations, including tuberous sclerosis complex and epileptic encephalopathies, as well as contributing to the assessment of young adults (under age 30) presenting with first seizures or newly diagnosed epilepsy, including those not previously followed in pediatric care.

A newly established 2-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) will be supported by the successful applicant, in collaboration with the existing epilepsy team, as services are further developed and operationalized.

This position includes one funded clinic day per week at JPOCSC, with potential for additional clinic time as the program grows and based on the interests of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities
-Provide specialized epilepsy care for patients transitioning from pediatric to adult services or from the community.
-Develop multidisciplinary programs for complex epilepsy conditions, including tuberous sclerosis complex and epileptic encephalopathies.
-Assess young adults (under age 30) with first seizures and new epilepsy diagnoses, including non-transition patients.
-Support operationalization and clinical development of the 2-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
-Provide outpatient clinic services at Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre.

Qualifications
-Minimum one year of formal epilepsy fellowship training.
-Certification in EEG interpretation by the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists (CSCN), or commitment to complete certification within one academic year.
-FRCPC in Adult Neurology or Pediatric Neurology (or recognized international equivalent).
-Eligibility for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

This position offers strong opportunities for involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education through University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University. Research support is also available through these institutions and through Fraser Health Authority.
