Job Description
North York General Hospital (NYGH), affiliated with the University of Toronto, is one of Canada's leading community academic hospitals. The hospital offers its culturally diverse community a wide range of acute care, ambulatory and long-term care services across multiple sites. Through partnerships, collaboration and academic endeavours, NYGH seeks to set new standards for patient- and family-centered care.
NYGH primarily serves the area of north central Toronto and southern York Region with a geographical population of over 400,000. The hospital partners with 36 different academic institutions, including the University of Toronto, to prepare future physicians, nurses and other health care professionals to work in interprofessional teams, providing essential care in a community hospital setting. Over 300 North York General physicians have faculty appointments at the University of Toronto.
Furthermore, NYGH remains a leader in patient- and family-centered care. In 2019, Newsweek ranked it as the #2 hospital in Canada and one of the top 100 hospitals in the world. In 2020, NYGH remained in the top 5 best hospitals in Canada and top 100 in the world. In 2021, NYGH ranked once again #1 academic community hospital in Canada. In 2022, NYGH ranked as top academic community hospital in Canada (7 consecutive years).
The Division of Cardiology is made up of 11 staff cardiologists with diverse expertise and clinical interests. The group works closely with partnering hospitals (i.e. Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto General Hospital, Unity Health) to provide specialized cardiac care for the patients of the North York region. These specialized services include but are not limited to coronary angiography, complex CTO angioplasty, simple and complex electrophysiological procedures, and transesophageal echocardiography. Our on-site diagnostic services include stress testing, stress echocardiography, nuclear imaging, Holter monitoring and advanced cardiac imaging (cardiac MRI and cardiac CT coronary angiography). We are a Level 2 Regional Centre, recognized by Ontario Health, now providing inpatient cardiac implantable electronic device procedures (pacemakers, generator changes, conduction system pacing).
At the Graham and Audrey Rosenberg Cardiac Care Clinic (CCC), we provide specialized outpatient cardiac care in the form of a rapid referral clinic, heart function clinic, cardio-oncology clinic, cardiac device clinic, cardiac amyloid clinic, arrhythmia clinic, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy clinic, and a Supportive/Palliative care cardiology clinic. The CCC is fully supported by a collaborative team of two nurse practitioners, nurse practitioner students, Pacemaker/ECG Technicians as well as a full- time administrative secretary.
The Division of Cardiology is looking for a candidate to assist in the expansion of the cardiology program. Additional fellowship training in Electrophysiology and/or Cardiac Device Implantation will be given priority. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all general clinical cardiology services and diagnostic tests interpretation/supervision as well as attend the in-patient cardiology service. Additional training in echocardiogram (level III or NBE examination completion) as well as Nuclear Cardiology certification (CNBC completion) will be considered an important asset.
The successful candidate(s) is expected to have un-restricted licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and have or be eligible for certification in Cardiology/Internal Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The candidate must be in good standing with all licensing bodies.
