Job Description
General Internal Medicine Physician
GIM Clinic • Guelph, Ontario • Outpatient consulting practice • No on-call
The opportunity
GIM Clinic is recruiting a General Internal Medicine specialist to join our consultant group in a new, purpose-built outpatient space in the south end of Guelph. Six general internists from Guelph General Hospital already practise with us.
This is a community-based ambulatory opportunity that is entirely separate from hospital work. There is no on-call, no inpatient service, and no after-hours obligation attached to this position. You practise the days you choose to practise.
What you would do
Our core service is the Acute Internal Medicine Service (AIMS) — the pathway through which family physicians in Guelph and Wellington County refer patients for timely internal medicine consultation. Every physician in the group contributes to AIMS. It is what sustains our referral base and keeps wait times short for the community.
Beyond that, we actively support focused clinical interests. If there is an area of internal medicine you want to build a practice in, we will help you develop the referral stream, template the visits appropriately, and staff the clinic — on the understanding that you also see general internal medicine referrals through AIMS.
Qualifications
- Certification in Internal Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC), or recognition as a specialist in Internal Medicine by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
- A Certificate of Registration Authorizing Independent Practice with the CPSO, or eligibility to obtain one
- Current CMPA coverage
- Excellent bedside manner — unhurried, clear and respectful with patients, and communicative with referring family physicians. This matters to us as much as clinical ability does.
- A collegial approach to group practice
Commitment
Flexible. We are ideally looking for the equivalent of one week per month. That can be arranged as consecutive days, as individual days spread through the month, or as blocks of weeks across the year — whatever fits the rest of your practice. We are open to a smaller start with room to grow.
What we offer
- No call and no inpatient obligations.
- Physician-owned and physician-led. GIM Clinic is directed by a practising internist, and clinical and operational decisions are made by physicians. This is not a pharmacy-affiliated practice — the pharmacy in the building is an independent tenant and a convenience for patients, nothing more.
- Flexible scheduling. You tell us the days; we build the clinic around them.
- Support for your professional interests. Room to develop a focused area of internal medicine alongside your general practice.
- A fully supported practice. Medical office assistant and nursing support, TELUS CHR EMR, and a sanctioned ambient AI scribe so your notes are finished when your day is.
- A competitive all-inclusive overhead split — one transparent figure covering space, staff, EMR and documentation tools, with no separate fees or hidden charges. Compensation is OHIP fee-for-service billings less that split; we are happy to go through the specifics at a first conversation.
- An established referral base from family physicians across Guelph and Wellington County.
- A new clinical space in south Guelph, in a building shared with a pharmacy, a radiology practice and an urgent care clinic — convenient for patients and for same-visit investigations.
- Collegial peers — a group of six general internists who also work at Guelph General Hospital.
Informal enquiries are welcome. If you would like to see the space or speak with one of the physicians already practising here, we are glad to arrange it.
GIM Clinic welcomes applications from all qualified physicians. Accommodations are available on request at any stage of the recruitment process.
