Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Comprehensive Inpatient Care

  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of acute and complex illnesses (e.g., pneumonia, diabetes, cardiac conditions).
  • Provide care across 22 acute care beds: general medicine, surgery, obstetrics, and intensive/coronary care.
  • Support a 20-bed inpatient Psychiatric Unit serving Bruce, Huron, and Lambton Counties.

Care Coordination & Communication

  • Act as the central point of contact for specialists, nurses, and allied health teams.
  • Maintain clear and compassionate communication with patients and families regarding care plans, risks, and progress.

Diagnostics & Treatment

  • Order and interpret labs, imaging, and other diagnostics.
  • Utilize on-site technology, including a CT scanner, a Telestroke-enabled ER, a Dialysis Unit, and P.A.C.S.
  • MRI services are currently in development.

Discharge & Transition Planning

  • Coordinate follow-up care, rehab services, home health, and community supports to ensure safe patient transitions.

Quality Improvement & Leadership

  • Participate in committees and initiatives promoting safety, efficiency, and excellence in patient care.

You’ll work closely with the Goderich Medical Team, including:

  • 18 Family Physicians
  • 3 Surgeons
  • 1 OB/GYN
  • 7 Psychiatrists
  • Emergency department physicians and consulting specialists

  • MEDITECH: a fully integrated information system with onsite, office, and remote access
  • Ontario Breast Screening Program
  • Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health – research involvement available
  • Teaching opportunities for residents and elective learners
