Opportunity

Brightshores Health System Division of Palliative Care and the Grey Bruce Palliative Medicine Group are seeking a flexible locum palliative care physician to join our collaborative team. A range of locum arrangements are possible, including part-time or full-time coverage, short-term coverage blocks (e.g., one-week rotations), or multiple recurring blocks across the year in any combination of settings.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide consultative, shared-care palliative services across diverse care environments in Grey Bruce and Owen Sound, including:

• Inpatient palliative care consultation
• Outpatient palliative pain and symptom management clinic
• An 8-bed residential hospice (Grey Bruce Hospice Chapman House)
• Community-based, home-visiting palliative care

Coverage blocks may include one or more weeks dedicated to hospital, hospice, or community care depending on the physician’s interest, availability, and skill set. We are happy to tailor a schedule that works for the successful candidate.

About the Grey Bruce Palliative Medicine Group

Our group includes six physicians with enhanced skills in palliative care who work collaboratively to provide seamless palliative support across all care sectors. In addition to inpatient consultation in the acute care setting, we provide community home visits with 24/7 on-call support to patients in:

• Private homes
• Grey Bruce Hospice Chapman House
• Long-term care homes
• Group homes and retirement homes

Together, the Brightshores Palliative Care Division and Grey Bruce Palliative Medicine Group support 100–120 community-based patients receiving palliative care each month.

We are also a teaching site affiliated with Western University and McMaster University, with opportunities to teach medical residents.

Qualifications

• MD with CCFP, RCPSC, or equivalent certification
• Certificate of Added Competency in Palliative Care (CAC), Palliative Medicine Subspecialty Accreditation, or equivalent training and experience
• Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a collaborative, shared-care model
• Access to transportation to provide home-based care across rural communities

Compensation

• Locum funding available through a regional Palliative Care AFP, or FFS billing if preferred
• Community Palliative Care On-Call (CPOC) funding available
