Position

The Department of Hospitalist Medicine is looking to expand its complement of Full-time & Part-time permanent physicians . Our physicians provide coverage to both our Hospitalist and Rehabilitation Units at Brightshores Health System – Owen Sound site.

Hospitalist Service Delivery

Our program is growing and operates on a four‑hospitalist‑per‑day model, with each physician carrying an average daily census of 15–18 patients. The service provides care for acute inpatient medicine beds and also delivers consultative and cross‑coverage support to medical patients admitted to other hospital units as needed.

Daytime coverage is approximately 8:00 am–5:00 pm on weekdays, with a rotating evening weeknight call schedule. Two hospitalists provide coverage on weekends and holidays.

Compensation:

• Monday–Friday: Daily stipend (varies depending on weeks of service commitment)
• Evenings, weekends, and holidays: HOCC plus 100% fee‑for‑service OHIP billings

Rehabilitation Service Delivery

The 16-bed Rehab unit is covered by one physician ~8am-5pm Mon-Fri (excluding holidays) with the support of an allied health team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologist, social worker, recreation therapist, dietitian and nurse coordinator. No on call required.

Compensation: Mon-Fri daily stipend of $1200. Optional hospitalist support work available for weekends/holidays surrounding any rehab weeks worked and after you’ve had experience on our hospitalist rotation.

For continuity of care, especially on Rehab, coverage for at least two weeks at a time on either service is preferred; but there is flexibility depending on availability/coverage needs.

Hospitalist weeks generally include call expectation in some capacity the weekend following a week worked (relative to number of weeks scheduled).

With 24-hour labs, excellent specialty back-up and comprehensive diagnostic imaging (CT, MRI, PACS capability), our regional centre is exceptionally well equipped.

Thriving rural hospitals are also located in Lion’s Head, Markdale, Meaford, Southampton and Wiarton, servicing a range of ambulatory, in-patient and emergency needs. Another five hospitals located within the region also refer to our specialists.

Qualifications

·        Interested candidates must hold CFPC certification (or equivalent training and experience) and must hold, or be eligible for, independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
