Job Description
Position
The Department of Hospitalist Medicine is looking to expand its complement of Full-time & Part-time permanent physicians . Our physicians provide coverage to both our Hospitalist and Rehabilitation Units at Brightshores Health System – Owen Sound site.
Hospitalist Service Delivery
Our program is growing and operates on a four‑hospitalist per day model, with each physician managing an average daily census of 15–18 patients. Care is delivered within a collaborative, multidisciplinary model, supported by nursing, Nurse Practitioners, and allied health professionals to optimize patient flow, continuity of care, and clinical decision-making.
The service provides comprehensive coverage for acute inpatient medicine beds and offers consultative and cross‑coverage support to medical patients admitted to other hospital units as needed.
Daytime coverage is approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with a rotating evening weeknight call schedule. Two hospitalists provide coverage on weekends and statutory holidays, ensuring consistent and reliable patient care.
Compensation:
- Monday–Friday: Daily stipend (varies depending on weeks of service commitment)
- Evenings, weekends, and holidays: HOCC plus 100% fee‑for‑service OHIP billings
Rehabilitation Service Delivery
The 16-bed Rehab unit is covered by one physician ~8am-5pm Mon-Fri (excluding holidays) with the support of an allied health team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologist, social worker, recreation therapist, dietitian and nurse coordinator.

The Owen Sound hospital is a Level 2 regional referral centre, offering a full range of specialty services through the Departments of Anaesthesia, Medical Imaging, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Oncology, Hospitalist Medicine, Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Pathology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and Surgery (ENT, General/Thoracic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Urology). With 24-hour labs, excellent specialty back-up and comprehensive diagnostic imaging (CT, MRI, PACS capability), our regional centre is exceptionally well equipped.
Thriving rural hospitals are also located in Lion’s Head, Markdale, Meaford, Southampton and Wiarton, servicing a range of ambulatory, in-patient and emergency needs. Another five hospitals located within the region also refer to our specialists.
Qualifications
· Interested candidates must hold CFPC certification (or equivalent training and experience) and must hold, or be eligible for, independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
