Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH), in Sydney Nova Scotia, is seeking full-time and part-time Hospitalist Physicians to join their team.

Cape Breton Regional Hospital is a 280-bed tertiary care institution that provides a broad range of medical care to patients in the Eastern Zone of the Nova Scotia Health Authority. CBRH is the second largest acute care facility in Nova Scotia and is the regional referral and trauma centre. CBRH operates as part of a four-hospital complex that includes New Waterford Consolidated, Northside General and Glace Bay Hospital. 

There is opportunity for applicants to engage in research and/or have medical teaching positions with Dalhousie University, and at the nearby Medical Campus, should that be of interest.  The current remuneration arrangement is daily rate as per the provincial hospitalist agreement with a stipend plus fee-for-service billings for on-call work.  As of April 1, 2026, the daily rate was $1576.47/day.

At Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH) there are 12 hospitalist lines on average. Patients are spread across several units in the hospital and are composed of medical patients outside the ICU.

Job Description

Expected Hours

Daytime coverage is 8am to 5pm and on-call coverage is 5pm to 8am, split between physicians covering the service for the week. Typically 1 call per week.

A 1.0 FTE would equal 2 weeks/month or 26 weeks/year. 

Qualifications

• eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
• membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
